Keeping the Minhag Alive: Kaporos in Crown Heights
As Erev Yom Kippur approaches, Crown Heights once again prepares for one of the oldest and most visible customs of the Aseret Yemei Teshuva season: Kaporos.
This year’s NCFJE-subsidized Kaporos will run across multiple locations serving Crown Heights, East Flatbush, and Remsen Village, with $5 chickens available at each site and a special Erev Yom Kippur session at 824 Eastern Parkway running from Motzei Shabbos at 8:15 PM until 5:00 AM (or until supplies last), with shechita beginning at 8:45 PM.
As always, the effort is made possible by community sponsors who help keep prices low so that cost is never the reason a family misses out on the minhag.
