Mother Turns Home into Miniature Science Academy

When Shani, a Crown Heights mother with an inquisitive and active 4.5 year old, was looking for ways to keep her son busy and stimulated after school, she came up empty handed.

Not having found any hands-on classes that would satisfy her son’s curiosity and need to create, she decided to research activities that were fun, creative and educational.  Her son loved the hands-on activities so much, she began to invite her neighbors and friends to join them.

Before long, her weekly sessions turned into a miniature science academy, with girls and boys from all over the community happily mixing, measuring and building their latest projects.

Hands-On Kids of Crown Heights, as it is now known, can be joined for a small fee by children ages 4 to 9. Younger girls meet on Sunday mornings, older girls on Mondays evenings and boys on Tuesday evenings.

This just shows that kids love naturally to learn, especially when there is no pressure of grades or homework. I encourage you to offer this during the week in the daytime…

Schools, take note of what is working, and making kids happy at the same time!

  • Go Shani!

Fantastic! Wish they taught this stuff in school, but you can’t have it all…

When your kid wins the Nobel Prize in Science you will have Shani to thank (and share your winnings with:) ).
