Aging Volunteer Ambulance Fleet Gets a Refresh

Hatzalah of Crown Heights took delivery of a brand new ambulance, and another is set to be delivered later next week. The new ambulances will replace their 7-year-old counterparts and enable Hatzalah to reliably continue to administer emergency care.

The new ambulance, known as CH-2, was donated by the Backer family and is dedicated in memory of Reb Yitzchok Shmuel and Chana Bracha Backer, OBM, and “in honor of all the Hatzalah volunteers of Crown Heights, in recognition of their selfless devotion and tireless efforts to serve our community on a moment’s notice.”

The new ambulance is outfitted with the latest lifesaving equipment and technology, which will allow volunteers to swiftly and safely deliver urgent care when they are called.

Later next week Hatzalah will take delivery of an additional ambulance that will replace ‘CH-1’, which came into service at the same time as ‘CH-2’ – back in 2006.

A new ambulance costs approximately $185,000 when purchased from the dealer; this cost does not include the emergency warning equipment, decals and other lifesaving machines. The outgoing ambulances will be sold in order to help offset the cost of the new ones.
