KSCVK’s Third Annual ‘Ice Cream Social’!

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Yesterday, Tuesday evening, Keren Simchas Chosson VeKallah held its third annual ‘Ice Cream Social’. Many women and girls baked cakes that were displayed for all to see, and then the participating audience was able to ‘bid’ on the cakes Chinese auction style. There were over 50 cakes on display.

An extensive gallery of all the beautiful cakes along with a list of the cakes and the amounts they were auctioned off for can be seen in the Extended Article! (Pictures by Mendy Bleier – (718) 953-0023)

There was an ice cream buffet, both Milchig and Pareve which was served with all different types of toppings. Hot apple turnovers, warm chocolate chip cookies, waffles, mouth watering cheesecakes and beautifully arranged fruits were just a few of the large variety of things to savor.

The event took place in the Oholei Torah Ballroom and was beautifully emceed by Mrs. Shoshana Rieber while the crowd enjoyed the expertise of Yaakov Rosenthal, a world renowned handwriting expert.

The gorgeous cakes baked by our very own talented women of Crown Heights were displayed and voted on for the most beautiful L’Chaim cake. Following the beautiful program all the cakes were brought up to the staged and then auctioned off in the order they were voted.

Purchasing the cakes at the auction has become known amongst event organizers and participants as a Segula for a Shiduch. Last year’s most expensive cake sold for nearly $5,000, and all the girls who had taken part in buying the cakes have merited to shiduchim that year, which went along with supporting KSCVK!

Posh and extravagant weddings was brought up as an issue by Mrs. Brachi Friedman, who said it has to stop before it get out of hand, and had over three hundred woman sign a petition supporting her.

On behalf of Keren Simchas Chosson V’Kalah, Devorah Benjamin and Shmuly Brashevitzky would like to thank all those who attended and continually support KSCVK’s Cause!

I personally know 2 girls who gave Tzedakah by purchasing cakes last year and have not yet merited to shidduchim. So the information in this article is not accurate. Just to let you know, they actually read this article and related to me that they were hurt to see that they are not yet married.

why don’t they post the names and phone numbers of the girls who bought the cakes. That would hasten the segulah!
I would add that maybe they should post their pictures too but it is chabad (Jewish) custom not to post pictures of women….

  • Deanery

Go Esther W. Looks like you really enjoyed yourself. See you next week IYH!

  • R.A.

Lots of fun, and so beautiful. I’d like to give some un-asked-for advice. The last cake should be sold by 10:00pm b/c after that you loose the crowd. I think you could have made much more. Maybe, a shorter program?

  • write right!!!!

    to Henna cake fan:

#16 is Luchos, which was definetely NOT made by Henna!! check your numbers again!!!!!!

  • cha

What does it mean if a cake doesn’t have an amount next to it? WEre those cakes not sold?

  • Devorah-s fan club

So who won??? We still don’t know. Also, as good as Shoshana was as MC, there’s no auctioneer quite like Miryam Swerdlov! She really brought in the $$$ and kept the crowd’s attention when she did it. Bring her back!
Devorah, you’re the best and did a great job! Really nice evening.

  • KSCVK fan

I baked last year and again this year; I always wait until my cake is auctioned off before i leave.

  • withheld upon request

The flower pot cake was bought by many single girsls (and some engaged girls) we all decided that the cake would go from Shabbos Kallah to Shabbos Kallah and IY”H many L’Chaims to. that cake was made by Ruth Raymond She is fabulous and such a sweet person. she does this on the side. her card was put near the cakes so i feel it is ok to give her number it is 917-602-1368.

  • Chanymo

you should have had it broadcast live so we out of towners could enjoy! Yasher koach Devora!!

Looking forward to your auction in the winter.

  • Tante Marcia

Thank you to my darling nieces Chaya and Chana Golda. You are the sweetest, thoughtful girls!
I am so touched! I love you both.

  • Leeba Kinseth

I am amazed at the talent shown here with the cakes! I am currently visiting the states but reside in Australia normally. I wish I could be there for this fantastic event. I know this money goes directly to the needy. People aren’t hungry just during Pesach. Especially with the economy as it is, we really need to stick together and help one another right now. This looks like a fantastic and fun way to run a charity event.

I especially enjoyed seeing all the young teenage girls playing a game at a table. Often they get a bit bored with the ‘adult women’ talk.

If Moshiach does not come today, I hope to join y’all next year.
