Crown Heights Package Thief Caught in The Act by Shomrim, Arrested by Police

A tip to Crown Heights Shomrim ended with a smooth arrest Sunday night, sending a recidivist package thief back behind bars.

Shomrim received a tip from a Crown Heights resident regarding a man walking on Montgomery Street between Albany and Troy Aves, checking homes porches for packages.

Multiple Shomrim volunteers responded, following the man as he made his way onto porch on Montgomery between Albany and Kingston, picked up two boxes of children’s diapers left outside, and attempted to make a nonchalant clean getaway.

His swagger died relatively quickly as Shomrim volunteers interfered with his escape, keeping him on scene until the police arrived.

After verifying with a neighbors home security camera that the man had in fact stolen the items, the police put the thief in cuffs and took him to the 71st Precinct.

“This recidivist #porchpirate was out on a spree tonight that was cut short thanks to a quick response by our Volunteers in collaboration with @NYPD71Pct,” Crown Heights Shomrim wrote on Twitter. “Job final: one UNDER.”
