Shomrim Apprehend Fleeing Hit-and-Run Driver

CROWN HEIGHTS [CHI] — A car traveling up Kingston Avenue suddenly swerved and smashed into a parked car. The driver then calmly collected all his paperwork, got out of the car and fled. A quick call to the Shomrim hotline resulted in his arrest.

Two people walking on Kingston Ave. witnessed the accident and began following the driver, who was described as a Hispanic or White male in his 30s or 40s. He was walking up Kingston from President Street – where the crash occurred – and made a left on Eastern Parkway.

Shomrim members intercepted the man at Eastern Parkway and New York Avenue, and as a number of volunteers approached the man he declared that he is no longer going to run.

Other Shomrim volunteers headed over to the scene of the crash and police were called.

Once police arrived on scene the man was immediately placed under arrest for fleeing the scene of an accident, as well as suspicion of DUI.

i might be wrong here but isn,t it considered leaving the scene of an accident only if he takess off in the car that caused the accident?but maybe not.since he left the car there they could have tracked him down with the license plate #.who is the car registered to?
