Police Officer Shot in Crown Heights

A police officer was shot and injured near the White Castle fast-food restaurant on the corner of Empire Blvd. and Utica Ave. in Crown Heights.

The shooting occurred only a few minutes ago, shortly after 5:00pm. Two police officers approached a suspect for questioning near the restaurant, when he pulled out a firearm and shot one of the officers in the upper thigh. The shooter then fled the scene.

The area was immediately swarming with dozens of police officers in pursuit of the gunman, including several helicopters circling above.

The officer’s injuries are non-life threatening, and he is expected to make a full recovery.

Update: Sources have reported to CrownHeights.info that the gun used in the incident has been recovered, and that a suspect is in police custody. Neither of these reports has been confirmed.

Update: Reliable sources have confirmed that a suspect is indeed in NYPD custody and the firearm has been recovered. The police officer is being treated for his injuries at Kings County Hospital, and is listed in stable condition.

let the cops respect the Jews . we don`t shoot police officers .
let the cops know we are a better caliper people

  • cops suck

I am not condoning violence of any sort and certainly not violence against police. Having said that, the cops in this precinct have done everything in their power to alienate every group of citizens that live here. It is no wonder there is so much anti police sentiment when they treat us all line criminals indiscriminately.

  • thanks

knew i could come on here to see what was going on a few blocks down. thanks for updating so quickly!

  • thanks for the update

When i saw police zooming out of the station on New York AVe almost to the point of making an accident with other cars i was really wondering what could bring such a strong reaction from the precint?
Now i understand… wish they had this type of reaction to all crimes, was pretty cool to watch

  • thanks for the info

I was driving down empire from boro park just at that time..saw so many police cars..was afraid they would run me over..so decided to postpone my kingston shopping till i went on your site and found out what happened.

When something happens to the Cops, like this. it becomes the end of the world. but when something happens in our neighborhood, “Crown Heights”, where are the cops????? and how much they care????? and what do they do about it????? its in sane……

    • My thoughts too

It takes one of theirs to be hurt & the place is full. When a Jew is a victim of a knockout, or even attacked & pistol-whipped, the reaction is….well, not too much of one. WE NEED PROTECTION and we are not getting it. Simple fact.

are you kidding me? what happened when the knockout game was happening. nypd had esu there, horse units, cops posted on every block for months. you have no clue. and whose saying it’s the end of the world, but a cop getting shot in the line of duty is a big deal. they put their lives on the line every time they go into work

    • vietnam

the police mentality of “i just want to go home safe and see my family… i put my life on the line every day” is bs, we all put our life on the line when we walk outside, the most dangerous thing we do is interact with police our life is actually on the line at that point….

the shoot first talk to my union rep later attitude is turning this place into a police state.

  • so a police officer was shot in the leg and all the police forces came...

… would they care as much if one of us was shot in the leg?

  • From a police officer

As I sit here reading all your comments I think to myself. Here we have a community like no other in the city where cops are posted on every corner during all holidays. A command post in front of 770 Easstern Parkway. 24 for hours a day 7 days a week. When something happens a A Knock out game, a robbery, female gets touched. There are a huge influx of police officers even more then usual to make the Lubavitcher community feel at ease and catch the criminals. This happens in no other Precinct.
We are denied days off to be with our family’s just so we can protect yours. We took that oath we try our best to make sure you and your family’s can sleep at night. Sometimes we work over 24 hours straight to make sure people and property are safe.
Last time I’ve seen a civilian jump in to help out a police officer fighting with someone was never. So when a police officer calls for help on the radio we I mean I know no one who sits behind there computer speaking bad about the NYPD is going to help and that’s the reason you get the turn out from the NYPD when aiding their own.
Here you have a young officer who has a family and not one comment wishes good health upon him. This officer risks his life for you everyday and for the city of New York. The Lubavitch community supposedly a caring community for all and accepting. I have yet to see it in this articles comments or any concern just by walking into the precinct and asking how the officer is.
I’m sure most people sitting behind there computer screens will comment about my comment. That just shows me that you realize I am correct and your just trying to defend yourself. Instead offer a B’H, or come into the precinct and say thank you.
Show the NYPD respect and you will get it in return.

To the Lubavitch Community, your better
    then that.

This was important comment. When a law abiding human being is shot it’s a tragedy whatever the context and this thread was a bad place to vent (perhaps misguided) frustrations toward the NYPD.

There can be no human life without rule of law and we appreciate the importance of your work.

That said… “Show the NYPD respect and you will get it in return.” is a profoundly disturbing comment.

      This is your oath:

I……………………DO SWEAR,, THAT – I WILL WELL AND TRULY SERVE – OUR SOVEREIGN COUNTRY AND STATE – AS A POLICE OFFICER WITHOUT FAVOR OR AFFECTION – MALICE OR ILL-WILL – UNTIL I AM LEGALLY DISCHARGED, THAT I WILL SEE AND CAUSE OUR COMMUNITY’S PEACE TO BE KEPT AND
PRESERVED – AND THAT – I WILL PREVENT TO THE BEST OF MY POWER – ALL OFFENSES AGAINST THAT PEACE – AND THAT – WHILE I CONTINUE TO BE A POLICE OFFICER – I WILL – TO THE BEST OF MY SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE – DISCHARGE ALL THE DUTIES THEREOF – FAITHFULLY – ACCORDING TO LAW.
      SO HELP ME GOD.

There is mention of G-d and there is mention of faith and there is mention of LAW.

There is no mention of tit for tat, emotional currency exchange. You give up the right to that partiality in exchange for the badge and the almost unlimited power that confers on you over your fellow human beings.

That’s the reason for your Oath.

I wish you strength from G-d you faithfully carry out your duty.

  • we must pray tifila

There are laws and the ten commandments of our beloved HaShem has given us. The police are there to uphold those laws. Continue in prayer Tefila. Psalm1:1.

LET US HAVE A SILENT ALL OUT NIGHT AND TEFILA FOR THE COMMUNITY.
