The Phone Call You Never Hear About
Somewhere in our community, a couple is waiting for the phone call that could change everything.
They have been waiting a long time. Longer than most people realize, because this is not the kind of thing people talk about at a kiddush. The appointments. The procedures. The financial strain. The quiet drive home afterward. It all happens out of view. Then one day, the phone rings, and everything changes.
That phone call comes from Bonei Olam Chabad. And this summer, our community has the chance to make sure it keeps coming.
What the numbers actually mean
Over the past year, Bonei Olam Chabad supported 148 couples in our community, made 299 fertility procedures possible, invested more than $1.3 million directly into the families who needed it, and welcomed 36 precious babies into the world.
Those are the figures. Here is what they look like up close. A case manager answering the phone at eleven at night. An appointment secured with a specialist who had no openings. A conversation with a Rav about a decision no one ever expected to face. A pregnancy that turned high risk after years of trying, and an organization that stepped in again instead of considering its work finished. A single person weighing egg preservation, navigating genetic questions, or facing fertility decisions before a medical treatment, and finding someone who could walk them through it with clarity and dignity instead of pity.
None of that fits inside a number. Every number is made of moments like these.
The part nobody sees
Every simcha in our community starts somewhere. A pidyon haben. An upsherin. A bar mitzvah. A chuppah. Trace any one of them back far enough, and you arrive at the same place: the moment a family began.
For most of us, that moment came without a second thought. For 119 couples in our community, it is the future they are still davening for.
Where this goes next
This is the heart of Give for Gratitude, Bonei Olam Chabad’s campaign to raise $1.2 million this summer. The idea is simple. When you have been blessed, one of the greatest ways to say thank you is to help another family receive that same blessing.
Celebrate Your Blessings. Help Others Build Theirs.
That message comes to life on Monday, July 27, when the men of our community gather at The Arches for the 6th Annual Bonei Olam Chabad Men’s Event. The evening will feature a soulful kumzitz with Eli Levin, prime meats fresh off the fire, an open bar, cigars shared in good company, a personal story, and words from Rabbi Shlomo Bochner. It promises to be an unforgettable night of brotherhood, inspiration, and generosity.
More importantly, it is the night our community helps decide how many more of those phone calls get made in the year ahead.
