CHK Reinstates Kashrus For The Lubavitch Matzah Bakery In Crown Heights

by CrownHeights.info

The CHK has announced that the Crown Heights Matzah Bakery on Albany Ave is again under their certification, ending a short fallout between the iconic bakery and their Hechsher.

“We are pleased to announce that the Lubavitch Matzah Bakery of Crown Heights is once again under the Kosher Supervision of the CHK of the Beis Din of Crown Heights,” they wrote in a letter. “Matzos with the CHK symbol on the box are under our supervision for Pesach.”

As previously reported on CrownHeights.info, the Vaad Hakashrus of Crown Heights, which oversees the CHK Kashrus Organization had published an alert notifying that the Lubavitch Matzah Bakery in Crown Heights was no longer under their supervision.

“While we work to resolve these issues promptly, please be advised that this applies to all matza produced so far this year,” the alert said. “Please take note that any matza packaged without the CHK symbol is not under our Hechsher.”

The Lubavitch Matzah Bakery, located on Albany Ave in Crown Heights, is one of the major sources of Matzah for the Lubavitch community worldwide for years, with the Rebbe himself using the Matzah Bakery each Pesach.

According to reports from people involved, the issue stemmed from requests made by the Vaad Hakashrus in an effort to make improvements to the Bakery. Requests being made, according to the source, include technical and layout improvements as well as a requirement that all workers be Shomer Shabbos.

A few months went by that the matza bakery was not under hechsher of the CH Bais Din.

What is the status of all these matzoh produced during those months?

How can we know which matzos were produced under hechsher of Bais Din, and which were not???

Use your seichel- if it doesn’t have the chk symbol on it then it isn’t under their supervision pretty simple.
