Authorities arrested a man they said stole a $450 silver crown from a Hollywood synagogue and then sold it for profit in North Miami.

Alexander Gesin, 44, was arrested Tuesday and faces several charges including third-degree grand theft, according to online Miami-Dade court records.

Hollywood Police said they believe the man smashed through a kitchen-area window June 15 at Chabad of the Ocean and stole the silver crown from the ark on the north wall. The synagogue’s director, Rabbi David Kudan, said the building was secured when he left.

Authorities tracked down Gesin after they said he used his personal ID to sell the crown for profit at a North Miami precious metal store. Gesin also had another silver piece of Torah dressing in his possession, police said.

In bond court Wednesday, Gesin told Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Marisa Tinkler-Mendez he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and was not willing to go to a hospital. When asked when he last received treatment or took medication, he replied, “long time ago.”

His parents were also present in court.

Gesin is scheduled to have another court hearing Sept. 6, according to online court records.

He should have accepted hospitalization, who does he think he is? His other “BAD” side will come out again from its closet soon again. I guarantee it.

Rabbi Kudan is very special. He cares about every single person and has time for everyone. I know his Chabad House could use some generous donations. I’m. Going to make one now.
