Machne Mamosh Celebrates Dovid Astulin Day!

CROWN HEIGHTS, Brooklyn [CHI] — Camp Machne Mamosh celebrated the first ever Dovid Astulin Day, this past Friday. H.C.S.T. says “Dovid is not just a bus driver, rather, a bus driver who cares about each and every child going to Yeshivah.”

Counselors were inspired by the Hayom Yom, earlier this summer, where the Rebbe mentions the Love which the Baal Shem Tov had for each child which he took to and from Cheder. Bus Driver Dovid Astulin lives that today. Dovid cares for the children, makes sure they have what they need on the way to school, makes sure they have a clean bus, entertainment, air conditioning… and all this not only on his bus but on all of the Yeshivah buses.

Campers call him “the Papa of the buses” or “the King of the buses” a title that doesnt begin to describe his devotion to the buses.

When asked what they think of him, parents were very impressed “Dovid is amazing, he cares for the ruchnius and the gashmius of our children. Not only is Dovid the bus driver who takes the boys to learn Torah, but he is also on hand incase of an emergancy G-d forbid, being an active member of Hatzolah ” commented one parent.

Dovid thinks of this as his Shlichus “being involved in Chinuch is an amazing thing and I see it as a big zchus.”

Campers and Counselors alike, celebrated Dovid Astulin Day by dressing up as Dovid himself, with sunglasses just like his, polo shirts like he wears, his many different hats, radios, blue tooth’s, keys, etc. the kids loved it and say he is definitely a positive role model.

What a great idea. It is amazing that the camp teaches the children to apreciate their driver. Truly special children who merited to have a such a wonderfull driver who cares about them .Not a just somone who yells at the kids ( like we had in my days) If every one in the chinuch world would take their job as seriosly as dovid. Every one that helps assist in the chinuch of a child recieves olam Habah.

  • ULY parent

Cheers for Rabbi Astulin. He is the best Bus Driver. Unfortunately, we don’t have him for the summertime, and we have to deal with a bus driver who forgets that he has to stop at my house unless you stand in front of the bus and wave him down. We can’t wait to have Rabbi Astulin back!

  • 2 blocks over

What a nice idea! Reb Dovid took my boys to & from Yeshiva many years ago (they’re grown now) & he was always a mentsch & kind to the kids, even when the boys would make him crazy on the bus. It’s lovely tribute to a really nice man (who is supported by his really nice wife, Zeesy!!)

  • Gr8-full bus monitor -lw

A handful of years ago I had the honor and privilege of working as a bus monitor for Camp Machne Mamosh side by side with Dovid Astulin and i can proclaim in all honesty that everything written here about Dovid caring for each and every kid etc. is soo incredibly true and if anything, an understatement! Dovid, it was an absolute pleasure working with you and I wish you only continued success in your shlichus! Keep up the good work! :)

    fantastic article.
dovid estulin is definitely deserving of his own day. the kids adore him as do the parents.
this is someone the kids see “in action” everyday, with a smile, and happy to see the kids.
Happy Dovid Estulin Day to you!

  • A visiting Bubbie!

What a worthy honor!! I came to visit my Grandchildren this winter and waited with them for the bus. Sure enough, Dovid drove up,opened the door and with a big smile not only greeted out little bocher, but was also quick to greet the girls. So nice to show our kinderlach how to appreciate someone so special!

  • an Oholei torah mother

My boys all went to Oholei Torah, but I also have a story about dovid:
On a FREEZING morning, when the OT bus wouldnt start, the OT driver asked Dovid that when he passes by the stops, he should inform the OT kids that there is no bus (he had to wait to get the bus fixed). Dovid didnt do that – he picked up the boys, and drove them to yeshiva!!

  • LETSNOT FORGET THE OTHER DRIVERS

GENERALY OUR SCHOOL BUSDRIVER’S CAME A LONG WAY.
IN OT WE GOT MOISHE AND OTHER YIDESHE DRIVERS WHO ARE NOW PLAYING WELL THOUGHT OUT YIDESHE TAPES AND GREET THE KIDS WITH A HAND OR A SMILE.

LETS NOT FORGET CHAIM IN BAIS RIVKA. THESE DRIVER’S BECAME AN ACTUAL PART OF THE CHINUCH. THANK YOU!
