Video: Aspiring Singer Returns with a Surprise

On a recent episode of The Voice, an Israeli singing competition show, a contestant from the previous year named Shai Dibo Cohen returned to try his luck again. While at his previous performance Shai looked like your typical Israeli from Tel Aviv, this time he came dressed differently – and with an added surprise for the audience and judges.

it is an international show with segments in america, israel, and many more countries.

  • so nice

don’t understand all of the conversation, but I get the general idea. beautiful..

  • meshichist

For all you antis who argue yechi turns off people, it was well accepted with all these people,no.I think some lubavitchers made it into an issue, while the rest of the world is ready to accept it.

    • True.

Sadly though, they look and laugh at him – ah, he’s not your regular chozer bitshuva. It couldve been a major kiddush hashem by actine they way the Rebbe would have wanted. Talking like that is not.

“Ready to accept it”? How foolish can you be… More like they shake their heads and laugh at it… It’s great comedy… They recognize that the guy is a clown, but they are there for a good time.

Meanwhile, too, as far as the Frum world is concerned, the Meshichistim are considered absolutely crazy… Get it through your head – it is not accepted and it never will be.

  • I asked a fluent Hebrew speaking American to translate

Shay says that he was here last year.

    Sarit Chadad, “what, like this?”

Shay, “No, I had time to do Teshuva since then”.

Aviv Gefen, “In my opinion it wasn’t good, the performance wasn’t good, very average”.

    Boos.

    Shay, “it’s totally fine”.

Shlomi Shabbat, “in my opinion, I think you sing very nicely, very interesting.”

    Shay, “Thank you.”

Sarit, “Do you work in music?”

Shay, “yes, I have an album that’s almost finished.”

    Shlomi, “religious music?”

Shay, “Since I became a ba’al teshuva that’s the place my writing has been going to, but from my perspective, not from…”

Aviv, “Say, what happened this year, why did you suddenly become religious? What’s the reason?”

    Shay, “Why not?”

Aviv, “No reason, I’m just asking.” (they obviously cut something here) “In my opinion G-d is a type of Clonex, it’s a free tranquilizer, the prescription is free.”

Shay, “What did you say in your song? ‘We wear suits that are always buttoned up, so we won’t smell the stink that’s inside’?”

    Aviv, “Yes”.

Shay, “Well, I found that there are suits that don’t stink inside.”

Aviv, “Really? Have you ever been in the Rabanut?” (where in his defense there’s a lot of corruption, which is part of the reason we don’t trust a Rabanut Hechsher).

Shay, “In the Rabanut there’s a lot that stinks and also that doesn’t stink.”

    Aviv, “Common, get real.”

Sarit, “You know, they say, ‘everybody in his faith shall live’. We don’t…” (In other words, to each their own.)

Shay, “they say, ‘A Tzadik in his faith shall live ” (it’s something that the Navi Chabakuk said.)

Aviv, “I feel that I am also righteous, and also religious in my own way.”

Mosh Ben Ari, “I’ll tell you something, it’s actually people who ask the question, it’s like G-d is with them the most in their circle (corner). You know, it’s actually because you speak about him so much, you’re the one who brings Him.”

Aviv, “I talk a lot, I also research it a lot, and I’m dying to believe, dying to find out.”

Shay, “Learn Chasidus. You’ll discover a new, wonderful world.”

Aviv, “There’s a new world in Tokyo.”

Shlomi, “Believe me, I envy you.”

    Aviv, “It’s a club – what, envy?”

Shay, “Aviv, I have to tell you something.”

Aviv, “Tell me everything, my friend.”

Shay, “I’m not scared, because I know what will be.”

    Aviv, “What will be?”

Shay, “There will be the Geula, and the Rebbe Mashiach will be revealed.”

Aviv, ” Oh right, of course.”

Shay, “And we will all, we will all stand up and declare, ‘Yechi Adonenu Morenu Verabenu, Melech Hamashiach Leolam Va’ed!” (while Shlomi is fanning and encouraging the crowd)

Aviv, “You don’t understand, you don’t understand. This is a rigged game. There is an audience here that when you say ‘Israel’ they all stand up. It doesn’t work on me.”

    Boos from the crowd.

    Aviv, “Why boo? I’m Jewish.”

Sarit, “What do you mean, I didn’t understand you, what did you say?”

Aviv, “That you and Shlomi, you don’t say anything. You’re always in favor of religion, you’re in favor of Israel.”

Sarit, “Listen, I’m a big believer in the Creator of the world.”

Aviv, “I’m sure that you have an agenda, as does Shlomi.”

    Sarit, “Right, yes.”

Aviv, “And you never hear anything from you guys. Not about religion, not about life.” (here they obviously cut something else out) “It’s really easy to say that Israel is a wonderful place.”

    Sarit, “Yes.”

Aviv, “Israel is a place that’s also very difficult. The brilliant minds in Israel get out (of Israel) because it’s hard here.”

Shlomi, “This guy’s upset that we didn’t turn our chairs around, and you’re now talking about Tokyo.”

Mosh, “Why, but he brought a great conversation.”

Shlomi, “What conversation? He wants to be on The Voice!”

Shlomi, “I want to first of all wish you luck in your album, for real, from the heart.”

    Sarit, “Yes, good luck.”

    Shlomi, “Hashem should bless you…”

    Shay, “All of us.”

Shlomi, “You should be successful, and thank you very much.”

    Shay, “Thank you all.”

  • Really nice and touching

Wow, very very nice to see the warmth and even the one that was challenging, the openness and comfort of doing that on live TV shows the closeness of Yidden in Israel.

Very nice, very touching. I see Hashem enjoying this very much.
