My parents hit a deer upstate. Totalled the car. Seatbelts (and Hashem) saved their lives.

  • wow!!

the cop taking this video barely had 1/2 second to think. i wonder if the video was just paused or or did he actually make a full safe stop with the cruiser?

either way it was real scary.

another point; there is only so much caution you use when driving in the catskills, there was no way he could have ever steered clear of the flying deer.

last time i did that it was at 75mph, i kept going another 150 miles, then realized my door wont open, together with the whole driver side of the car (lights doors…) was all messed up. drove it for a week and then back home another 200 miles and bentched goimel

To Shmulk. You should leave the L out of your name. All you’re concerned about is making ‘choizik’?
Was anyone hurt in the car? They should ‘bentch HaGoimel’.

Thank G-d no human was hurt. But….the poor deer…had to die an awful death.

my gosh, that’s scary, so the driver of this car just kept barrelling ahead with a broken window, probably someone in the car seat was hit with shards of glass and had to pull over for sure!!!!!!!!!

  • WOW

Deer are so dangerous. They can total a car, severely injure someone, and still come out unscathed.

And how come you hear the deer crashing against the windshield but you hear NO reaction from anyone in the car!! I’m not sure I buy this 100%.

Bs”D We lived in the Midwest for years, where there were deer on the roads, also. We found out that deer come out more often when the sun is just coming up and when it starts becoming dusk. For some reason, at these times, we had to be more on the lookout. Also, when you see one deer up ahead, standing on the side of the road, there is probably another or even a few more waiting to cross. The department of transportation laws required that the driver NOT swerve and try to avoid the deer, if it meant that the driver would cause damage in other ways. It’s difficult to figure out how to think so fast if there is a deer coming. Several ways of being able to handle the situation with more clarity are driving within speed limits, being really awake while driving, not talking on the cell phone, not having the music blaring and not involving the driver in conversations. This allows the driver to be more aware of what is coming up ahead on the road. Obviously, we can only do our part and ask Hashem to help us with the rest. But, first we must do our part. Have a healthy and safe summer to all.

There really isn’t much to be careful about. There is no way to avoid that.

That “deer” looks more like a female moose. Do they have moose (meese?) in upstate NY?

I think this is fake… Sure, the point is one hundred percent true “Be careful in the Catskills,” but since when do deer fly out of nowhere? And where did the “AAAHHHH!” disappear to?
