Mayer Rivkin Music Video “The Promise” Released

In time for Yom Kippur, Infinity Productions, the production Company that produces music videos and CD albums for the Chabad Vocalist Mayer Rivkin, has announced the release today of its latest music video entitled “The Promise.” In this moving music video/slide-show, Rivkin sings the popular Chabad melody known to many as “Yaaleh,” frequently sung during the evening prayers of Yom Kippur.

The niggun (melody) was composed by the prolific composer, Chabad vocalist and great Chossid, Rabbi Sholom Charitonov, z”l, of the Ukraine, with English lyrics added during the summer of 1991 at Camp Gan Israel Detroit Michigan. The heart wrenching tune, lyrics and images in the video, illustrate the pain and confusion of the current bitter exile and the unfaltering faith with which Jews proclaim, as per the songs lyrics: “Hashem made a promise, we will be redeemed, Moshiach will come to fulfill our dream.”

When asked, why this title, why now? … Rivkin replied … “upon realizing that every single song we chose for the album was about Moshiach and Guelah (redemption), I felt in my heart, that I must create a music video that will precede the new album, entitled REDEMPTION, that will inspire those of us who are, perhaps as of yet, not truly sincere in their longing and anticipation for the coming of Moshiach. Waiting for Moshiach is not simply a good thing but our obligation. The lyrics in the song compel us to beg, cry and indeed demand that THE PROMISE of redemption be fulfilled now. As the Rebbe says in the video … together with our demands and with one single act, or even thought, of goodness and kindness, we will surely bring Moshiach.”

For the benefit of the hearing impaired and for the purpose of following the lyrics with ease, sub-titles have been added to the video.

  • FINALLY

THIS IS WHAT I WANT MY KIDS TO HEAR AND SEE. THE MUSIC IS REAL AND THE VOICE IS SOFT, THERAPEUTIC AND INSPIRATIONAL.
THE LYRICS AND THE IMAGES ARE THOUGHT PROVOKING AND TEAR JERKING. MY EYES ARE STILL DAMP AS I TYPE THIS. THANK YOU MR. RIVKIN. I EAGERLY AWAIT YOUR NEW CD.

    A THANKFULL MOTHER

  • heard him live

i was at the shul of bal harbor for rosh hashono and heard meyer rivkin daven shacris. this video is something else and it tickled my emotions (i am not an emotional sort guy) but i must say here, he sounded better in person and without any reverb. although the accoustics of the shul may have helped.

  • great graphics again

the artwork another winner. he can’t stay away from a talis on the cover but another winner nevertheless.

  • need to forward

This is one heck-of-a production. I must forward this video to a number of people. How do I go about doing this? Can I get some help from someone out there?!

    Very beautiful and moving…
However it’s too long, and boring. It lifts you and drops you.
    The lyrics aren’t the greatest.
Needs more work. The singing needs more depth
    and grandeur.

  • a must view

it is essential that every man woman and child view this video…without exception! it describes the message of moshiach like i have never heard or seen it before. bravo.
    kudos to the producers.

this is one video that should make the rounds big time!

  • plain lyrics

yes, the lyrics are simple and not very poetic but…they are direct and to the point. the message came through to me very clearly. sung beautifully. thank you.

  • wanna be-s

all the wanna be singers have come out with one slide show or another. however this one is by far the best and classyest of them all. good job.

  • to camper

of course this sounds like a camp song, du du head, that exactly what it is. but ya gotta admit, these guys brought it to a much higher level. by the way, ide love to know who wrote the lyrics.

  • Please.....

Excuse me? You think that every man, woman, and child to should watch this video and put themselves through the agony of listening to it? A camp song is a camp song. Meant for children to learn and remember niggunim and not for cds sung by adults who can’t or refuse to write their own music.
Like most camp songs, the lyrics are juvenile, meant only to rhyme and follow a basic idea. The song doesn’t flow. Making this video the example of what our children should watch is committing the crime of stifling our children’s creativity. A ghetto style idea.
The song ‘It Happened Yom Kippur’ is enough to bring back memories of camp with a beautiful song. Let’s not make a habit of it. Thank you.

  • mr. hoffinger

you should write reviews for rolling stone magazine. there, you may be considered a maven.

  • money maker?

as one who enjoys a good production, i appreciated this noble effort, but is this a money maker for the producers?

  • MATISYAHU FAN

I AM AN AVID MATISYAHU FAN AND HIS MUSIC IS COOL AND I CAN GET INTO IT. IMAGINE, HOW I SURPRISED MYSELF, AT ACTUALLY BEING INSPIRED WHILE WATCHING THIS MOSHIACH VIDEO. FUNNY HOW A VIDEO YOU THINK YOU’RE GOING TO HATE, ACTUALLY ENDS UP GETTING YOU THINKING. THIS SONG TOGETHER WITH THE FOOTAGE OF PEOPLE REACHING OUT TO GOD, IS PUTTING ME IN A SURPRISINGLY LIGHT-HEADED MOOD, JUST IN TIME FOR YOM KIPPUR. I GUESS THAT’S A GOOD THING.

  • cover model

the guy on the cover looks just like the guy inside the video at the kosel with his hands in the air. is that just a coincidence or is he the same guy? buy the way, his tephilin are not chabad and not centered on his head. also, the talis looks…oh forget it. the video itself is really good.

  • to mr. or mrs. PLEASE

are you not coming accross a bit too strong? one wonders at the reasons for your scathing comments regarding a perfectly impresive production, even if the lyrics are not as profound as you would like, to suit your lofty expectations.

my children are not yet home from school but, i will encourage them to watch this video as soon as they arrive. i have no doubt they will find it as enjoyable and thought provoking, as i have. it is a few houres now since i viewed the video and i still can’t seem to get the memorable images out of my head.

  • POWERFUL !!!

This music video is POWERFUL! POWERFUL! POWERFUL!

SIMPLE YET PROFOUND. As mentioned above by some commentators, the lyrics are plain, yet… DIRECT AND TO THE POINT.

It seems to me that the point of this production (as you mention in the article) is to encourage as many people as possible (as the Rebbe says in the video…men, women and children) to start believing in and wanting Moshiach more then they have been. This is the call of our times as the Rebbe has clearly articulated to us (with plain words) over and over again. The only way to do this is with direct, simple words… WITHOUT PSHETLACH!

I say, if you want poetry get a book of poems and enjoy. If you want to bring Moshiach, open up your mouth and with straight-forward simple words tell yourself and your friends and the entire world, to START BELIEVING MORE IN MOSHIACH AND DO ONE EXTRA DEED OF GOODNESS AND KINDNESS…AND MEAN IT!
above all else! this is our mission of today and now.

So if Rivkin comes out with a video with this message in “plain English” we should but only “sing” his praise and encourage others to do the same as he is doing! DALOY GOLUS! DALOY GOLUS! ENOUGH OF GOLUS! ENOUGH OF GOLUS!

    WE WANT MOSHIACH NOW!!!

  • Not again!

Camp songs as sung by kids has so much more zest – this guy sounds like he’s singing in a straight-jacket. Where the kick? And why not make the words fit the tune a bit better? Very unimpressed – quite embarrassing to see an adult singing and ruining kids songs and then getting rave reviews! “It happened Yom Kippur” was only marginally better, but same issues.

  • will use it

i am a shliach in california and showed the music video it happened yom kippur as part of a erev rosh hashana program for about 75 people. the video was a major success and promted a long discussion afterwards.

i have already decided to show this new video as part of a future program, regardless if it comes out in dvd or not. i will find some way to convert from youtube to a showable format. any help with how i can do this is appreciated.

  • nice introduction

cool intro. to video. love how the sun and rays rise up to piano, all in sinc. with the background music. great idea.

  • to please:

excuse me yourself! your hateful comments cannot be ignored.
you sound like a woman (just a guess) with some serious issues. may Hashem help you to resolve them.

this production should indeed be made available to every man, woman and child. not every single one of them will love it as much as i have…but the clear message of the video will surely be lost on no one!

we must all continue to demand that moshiach come…and he will…just you wait and see.

  • to not again:

there is no doubt that you’re the same guy (or gal) who authored the previous negative comment. you sound like an individual who is a frustrated failure in, i would bet, an attempt to produce a childrens recording. you make yourself out to be such an expert on children and what it is they like. please share with us who you are and what makes you an authority. rivkin does not need me as a lawyer to speak for him but i could just not let your mean comments go without a response. i would imagine that he knows your type well enough and still releases his work without being bothered by your kind, for the sake of overwhelming number of people who love and appreciate his work. fwew! glad i got that out.

  • ya! who is this guy

that is such a maven on kids songs and uses words like “zest.” you’ve been identified. stop already! you’re boring us with your negativity during these days of required ahavas chinom. this video is a runaway success, if the overwhelming positive comments here is any indication.

    MOSHIACH RIGHT NOW!

  • PLEASE 2

It is true what you say that it is very nicely done video. However, if one new music even a little bit, he would realize that the words don’t fit the tune. If he would have added one or two more words per stanza, than it would have been MUCH nicer. When a song sounds like “FEEE-EEELT” you see my point. The words do get across nicely, but… It really does sound like a camp song. I am not a aspiring musician, just know music. Words are supposed to flow in a song. He did do a tremendous job though. YASHAR KOACH and messiah now

  • touched

The images on this video are both moving and inspiring, along with the words of the Rebbe its a crowning glory!Yasher koach to Mr. Rivkin.
