8:00pm: Can Women Understand Chassidus Like Men?

This week’s edition of MyLife: Chassidus Applied with Rabbi Simon Jacobson, Episode 127, will air tonight, Sunday, here on CrownHeights.info, beginning at 8:00pm. This week Rabbi Jacobson will address the topics: Can Women Understand Chassidus Like Men? Are We Supposed to Love Criminals? Is Lashon Hara Really Like Murder? What Do We Learn from a Tisha B’Av Nidche? What Feasible Measures Can Parents Take to Prevent Child Abuse?

I know that the Rebbe encouraged women as well to learn Chassidus. The question is can women understand Chassidus like men? Can they learn the deepest subject matters? Is there a difference in how men and women can and should learn Chassidus?

Are there any exceptions to the commandment of Ahavas Yisroel? Is our unconditional love for every Jew supposed to extend to criminals? One extreme example is having Ahavas Yisroel for someone who abused children. How is one supposed to feel towards that person, a fellow Jew?

As the ‘speaking species,’ we spend ample time communicating with each other; this can leave room for much gossip andlashon hara. Why does the Talmud compare lashon hara to murder? What does Chassidus say about lashon hara and its severity?

Rabbi Jacobson will also review the following essays submitted in this year’s MyLife: Chassidus Applied essay contest: “Perfectly Imperfect” by Faigy Schwei, “Unity” by Tzipora Elberg and “True Love” by Basya Feldman. These and other essays can be read online at meaningfullife.com/essays.

And finally, the Chassidus question of the week:  The Anatomy of Time According to Chassidus Part II. What is the relationship between time and beyond time?

This hour-long dose of insights is meant to inform, inspire and empower us by applying the teachings of Chassidus to help us face practical and emotional challenges and difficulties in our personal lives and relationships. To have your question addressed, please submit it at meaningfullife.com/mylife.

In what has now become a staple in so many people’s lives, MyLife: Chassidus Applied addresses questions that many people are afraid to ask and others are afraid to answer. When asked about the sensitive topics he has been addressing, Rabbi Simon Jacobson commented, “I understand that the stakes are high and great care has to be taken when speaking openly, but the silence and lack of clarity on matters plaguing the community can no longer go unaddressed. The stakes of not providing answers are even higher.”

The on-going series has provoked a significant reaction from the community, with thousands of people viewing each live broadcast and hundreds of questions pouring in week after week. At the root of every question and personal challenge tackled by the series is the overarching question: Does Judaism have the answers to my personal dilemmas?

In inimitable “Jacobson-fashion”, the broadcast answers people’s questions in simple, clear language while being heavily sourced. Each episode is jam-packed with eye-opening advice from the Rebbeim, gleaned from uncovering surprising gems in their letters, sichos and maamorim that address our personal issues with disarming relevance. Simultaneously, Rabbi Jacobson is able to crystallize a concept quickly, succinctly, and poignantly for any level of listener.

All episodes are immediately available for viewing in the MLC’s archive and can be downloaded as MP3s for listening on the go.

So inspirational and interesting. Much to learn from a person of such caliber who presents his teachings in such a pleasant manner.
Wishing Rabbi Lau continued hatzlacha in his wonderful work for klall Yisrael.

  • Not at all sexist

I believe this subject is in response to women who have been learning chassidus in depth and have uncovered allot of amazing gilluim that remained hidden in plain sight waiting for someone to notice. However, most women in general are not ready to believe that another woman can actually grasp chassidus on that level, so Rabbi Jacobson, as a shliach from Hashem, is assuring them that yes, women can do so, and perhaps even more so then men. So not sexist at all. Just validating.
