8:00pm: Chassidus Applied with Rabbi Jacobson

The ninth episode of MyLife: Chassidus Applied with Rabbi Simon Jacobson will air tonight, Sunday, March 8th (Rosh Chodesh Adar II) here on CrownHeights.info, beginning at 8:00pm. This week’s class is titled “Recreational Drug Use, Women’s Avoda on Purim and Doubts in G-d and Torah.”

Rabbi Jacobson will address questions such as these:

The mitzvah of getting drunk on Purim has zero relevance to women, just like the Chassidic explanations about the significance of the dancing on Simchas Torah seemingly has no relevance to women, nor the dancing in the streets on Simchas Beis Ha’Shoeiva. When the emphasis is on what the Yom Tov means to the man, where does that leave women?

How are we supposed to regard the descriptions of Chassidic life of yesteryear in which the men left their wives and children and went to the Rebbe for Yom Tov? And they didn’t go for a day or two; they went for weeks and months at a time. Was Chassidus and the derech ha’Chassidus meant for women?

Other topics to be addressed in Sunday’s hour-long broadcast include:

  • Doubts in G-d and Torah
  • Unspoken Impulse Part III
  • Smoking pot and other drug use
  • Are women second class citizens in Judaism?
  • Co-Dependency: Dealing with an addicted spouse
  • Suicidal thoughts

MyLife: Chassidus Applied addresses questions that many people are afraid to ask and others are afraid to answer. When asked about the sensitive topics he has been addressing, Rabbi Simon Jacobson commented, “I understand that the stakes are high, but the silence and lack of clarity on matters plaguing the community can no longer go unaddressed. The stakes of not providing answers are even higher.”

The on-going series has provoked a significant reaction from the community, with thousands of people viewing each live broadcast and hundreds of questions pouring in. At the root of every question and personal challenge tackled by the series is the overarching question: Does Judaism have the answers to my personal dilemmas?

In true “Jacobson-fashion”, the broadcast answers people’s questions in simple, clear language while being heavily sourced. Each episode is jam-packed with eye-opening advice from the Rabbeim, gleaned from uncovering surprising gems in their letters, sichos and maamorim that address our personal issues with disarming relevance. Simultaneously, Rabbi Jacobson is able to crystallize a concept quickly, succinctly, and poignantly for any level of listener.

All episodes are immediately available for viewing in the MLC’s archive and can be downloaded as MP3’s for listening on the go.

    Hello Rabbi Jacobson,

Thank you for sharing your insights and all of the extensive research and letters. I really appreciated your very easy, direct and to the point delivery of the message around recreational drugs.

You said everything that I have been thinking but could not find the right words regarding this very sensitive topic.

Please speak more about this and in public, there are alot of people in our community that would benefit.
