Rebbe in 1972: Constantly Strive for Spiritual Beauty

Jewish communities throughout the world commemorated 63 years since the Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem M. Schneerson, of righteous memory, ascended to the leadership of Chabad-Lubavitch.

Holding Chasidic gatherings punctuated by inspiring presentations and soulful singing of wordless melodies known as nigunim, the crowds reflected on the importance of the 10th day of the Hebrew month of Shevat, when the Sixth Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneersohn, of righteous memory, passed away and his son-in-law became the Rebbe.

Many centers viewed a newly-released recording of a 1972 Chasidic gathering in Brooklyn, N.Y., marking the special nature of the day, during which the Rebbe speaks about his predecessor’s parting message: Just like a garden or an orchard, the world needs constant tending in order to keep producing, the Rebbe explained. We too must never be satisfied with prior accomplishments, but continue our work to make this world a place of beauty.

Released by Jewish Educational Media through the financial support of Ben and Rochel Federman, Mendy and Leah Schurder and family, and Rabbi Y. D. Grossman and family, the Yiddish video with English subtitles can also be viewed online through Jewish.TV, the multimedia portal of Judaism website Chabad.org, by clicking here.
