Upstate Hebrew School Bakes Cookies for Cops

Chabad Hebrew School of Orange County, NY, decorated and presented cookies to cops to express their appreciation for all they do.

On Sunday, December 4th, at the end of Hebrew School, some students and their parents of the Sunday classes went to the Village of Monroe Police Department to present their card and cookies they had decorated. First, Officer John Loftus of Monroe, father of Hebrew School Juliana Loftus, who is a police officer in the Bronx, spoke all about being a police officer. Then, Officer Ryle of Monroe PD gave  a tour of the police station, processing and jail cells.

On Monday, December 5th, some Monday class students and parents visited the Town of Chester Police Department to present their card and cookies. Officer Stack gave us a tour of the station, his gear as well as the police car.

Rabbi Pesach Burston talked about the Torah mandate for setting up a justice system and law enforcement officers.  The students were excited about the experience and the police were grateful for the gesture of appreciation and the cookies. Officer Stack mentioned how unfortunate it is that police have recently been disliked in the media, and how much they appreciate the local support from the community.

Chabad Hebrew School of Orange County, run by Shluchim Pesach and Chana Burston and Youth Directors Leia Young and Chaya Batya Flamer, has 90 students and teen volunteers, and offers classes either Sunday mornings or Monday afternoons.  For more info visit www.ChabadOrange.com.
