Chabad Rabbi and His Young Team Aid Fire Department with Shovels

Rabbi Mendy Kivman, director of Chabad of Milford, MA, took to the streets with his four sons Monday afternoon on a mission to free some fire hydrants.

Dressed in snow gear and wielding shovels, the team drove along streets adjacent to the Chabad Jewish Community Center, locating the little red flags signaling a fire hydrant buried under several feet of snow.

“It feels good because it’s not only helping the fire department, it helps the whole town,” said Sruly Kivman, the oldest of the four, while digging a path from a hydrant to the street. “It’s a great ‘mitsva,’ like a good deed.”

He said their work might inspire others to do the same.
