Mohel in Russia Performs Bris Number 5774

Rabbi Shaya Shafit, a Mohel in Russia, just performed his 5,774th Bris Milah, the same as the number of years since creation.

The Bris was performed on the infant boy of a Shliach in Moscow.

Rabbi Shaya has been performing circumcisions for over two decades all over Russia and the former Soviet Union, many of them on adults who did not have the opportunity to fulfill the Mitzvah under the communist regime.

i could be wrong though world is not yet 5774 years old … though we just entered the 5774th year since creation … world is a full 5773 years old since creation …

for example a human 20 years old is not 21 years since birth because he is only in his 21st year

Actually the world is only a bit over 5772 years old. It was created on 25 Elul of the year 1. On Rosh Hashono of the year 2, when Odom Horishon was created, the world was only five days old.

(continued) But the article doesn’t say “the world’s age”, it says “the number of years since creation”, and that is correct. This is the 5774th year since creation. The first year only had five days, and this year has so far only had a bit under three months, but they’re still years.

PS: Little known fact: the Seder Olam, which is where we get most of our history, e.g. that Yetzias Mitzrayim was in 2448, and that hte churban was in 3828, used a different calendar, counting according to the age of Odom Horishon. In that calendar, the second Rosh Hashono, which on our calendar was the year 3, is only the year 1, because it was Odom’s first birthday. So to convert to our calendar we must add two years to all the Seder Olam’s dates. That means Yetzias Mitzrayim was really in 2450, and the churban was really in 3830 (which matches what Roman history tells us).
