Young Shluchim Participate in Worldwide Poster Competition
“A mitzvah a day keeps the Yetzer Hora away.” Nine year old Yaakov Yosef Heidingsfeld, shliach to Prestwich, England, chose this slogan as his theme on the colorful poster he submitted to Chayolei Tzivos Hashem’s first annual poster contest.
The bottom right corner depicts one girl asking another “Excuse me, are you Jewish?” as she hands her a Shabbos candlestick. A thought bubble can be seen emanating from the girl’s mind, revealing her intention “to bring Moshiach.” The upper left corner shows a boy standing near the negel vasser he’s prepared by his bed. “Did I do this the way the Rebbe wants?” he can be seen asking himself, then affirming that “this will bring Moshiach.” Footsteps can be seen tracing the path from this scene, as well as the others that encompass the periphery of the poster, tracing their paths toward the golden Bais HaMikdosh that gleams in the center of the page.
A proud member of MyShliach, Yaakov Yosef’s poster is displayed on MyShliach’s website along with the many submissions that span tens of countries around the world. Divided by grade level, Yaakov Yosef and nearly 700 fellow chayolim in MyShliach’s platoon have two days left to vote for their favorite posters, with winners to be announced this Monday, b’ezras Hashem. One winner will be chosen per grade, with the winning posters to be submitted to Tzivos Hashem Headquarters for a second round of voting in which one final winner per grade will be chosen. The eight winning posters will be presented in HaChayol Magazine as well as at Tzivos Hashem’s Chanukah rally.
“The poster contest is yet another medium through which MyShliach brings yaldei hashluchim together for meaningful, enjoyable and educational activities, reminding them that no matter where they may be, they are part of something far greater—they are not alone,” says Mrs. Blumie Rosenfeld, MyShliach’s coordinator of Chayolei Tzivos Hashem. Indeed, spanning 232 cities in 31 countries, MyShliach serves as a veritable lifeline for these chayolim, providing them with the opportunity to grow in Chassidishkeit and partake in Tzivos Hashem’s stimulating motivation system through a program that has been customized to meet their unique needs.
The poster competition has sparked the imagination and talent of thousands of chayolim in schools around the world, depicting their understanding of what it means to be a soldier in the army of Hashem. “We have a lot to learn from,” says Rabbi Shimmy Weinbaum, director of Chayolei Tzivos Hashem. “These children are very creative and totally focused on their mission to bring Moshiach NOW!”
