First Letters Written in New Sefer Torah for Scotland

Close to 100 people attended a pre-yomtov event at Lubavitch of Glasgow, Scotland, where they witnessed the start of a new Sefer Torah, commissioned by the children of Rabbi Chaim and Sora Jacobs in honor of their parents’ 44 years of dedicated service to Scottish Jewry as Shluchim of the Lubavitcher Rebbe.

Another highlight of the event was the Tzivos Hashem Shofar Factory, led by Rabbi Yossi Simon of London.

Other activities included round chalah baking, honey cake baking, tzimmes cooking by Tzirl Jacobs, apple and honey dipping, Rosh Hashana sand art, ‘happy new year’ card making and wine tasting.

A tasty lunch, catered by L’chaim Restaurant, was enjoyed by all present, and all guests received a jar of honey as a door gift.

Several of those attending took the opportunity to have their Mezuzos checked on the spot by the Sofer.

The beginning of the writing of the new Torah was done by a well known Sofer from Manchester, Rabbi Uzzi Brown, and many of those present had the opportunity to write a letter in the new Torah with the Sofer’s help. For most of them, it was the first time ever that they had personally participated in this special mitzvah.

It was an afternoon full of learning, warmth and emotion for all present.
