Student Fashion Show Celebrates Jewish Femininity

Ever ready to showcase student talent and emphasize Jewish ideas, the Chabad House for Students of the Arts created ‘Inner Expressions,’ a unique student fashion show, to inspire students and the greater Jewish community of Philadelphia about the essence of Jewish femininity. The women-only event took place on Thursday evening, November 17 in the Gershman Y’s Levitt Auditorium, in Center City Philadelphia.

“This fashion show was the ideal way to bring together students from various disciplines—fashion, jewelry, dance, theater, photography, graphic design and more—and challenge them both artistically and spiritually,” said Reuvena Grodnitzky, co-director of Chabad of the Arts and the program’s organizer. “And the students involved got great recognition for their work at the same time as well.”

The fashion show featured four student designers—from University of the Arts, Moore College of Art and Design, the Art Institute of Philadelphia, Drexel University—as well as eight student models. The evening’s program also included a student dance performance, three jewelry kiosks with student designs for sale, an inspirational guest speaker and an elegant dessert buffet.

“It was such a lovely night! Thanks for giving me and the other designers an opportunity to showcase our work in such a beautiful way,” said Shelby Kay, one of the student designers.

“It’s so important for young women to have a sense of pride and dignity in both their appearance and identity,” said Grodnitzky. “We hope that this show empowered the students, as well as all of the 100 women in attendance, to express their inner essence.”

What an amazing evening. Talented students, wonderful desserts , and beautiful jewish women together.

You should have made a more appropriate selection of pictures to publish and not to publish, as there are obviously some clothes which are far from being tznius. After that, don’t be surprised to see your daughters in such clothes. People are complaining that many frum daughters are emulating the models they see in magazine, and publishing such pictures do not fix the problem…

  • In my not so humble opinion...

Inappropriate to post as wonderful as the program may be in developing the
artistic talents of the students. Belongs on a site for women only if anywhere.

  • I am sad to see you feel this way

Dear Moshe Rachel please go jump in a lake, this is tzniut end of story, and might I add that yes it is chabad, there is no mitzvah to be ugly, dont try and make fun or claim that the efforts of these girls are actually in vain and wrong when they are not.

I think the clothes and models were delightful. I attended this event and Rauvena did an amazing job! To nit-pick that the clothes were not “tziniut” is to overlook the obvious underskirts and sheer display of talent. I also would say the pictures are fabulous.
