Rutgers Jewish Outreach Expands
Marking their first anniversary, Chabad of New Jersey’s Rutgers Jewish outreach has started a unique community service program, made up of Rutgers students volunteering with special needs children and teens throughout Central New Jersey.
The new program is being done in cooperation with Friendship Circle of Central Jersey, Smiles on Seniors program where students visit seniors living in assisted living facilities and senior communities in New Jersey. Students will also be visiting local hospitals to cheer up the patients, young and old.
The latest program, born through the initiative of student volunteers and a sister in-law of a New Jersey mother, who is currently being treated for yeneh machlah and is in dire need of a Stem Cell donor. This has inspired Rutgers Jewish Outreach and its students to start on Campus Stem Cell and Bone marrow donor drives in cooperation with Gift Of Life.
Working together with New Jersey Blood services, and University officials, volunteers have already held several very successful donor drives on campus, and more are planned to take place in the coming weeks and months.
Over the past weeks, Rutgers Jewish Outreach has also worked closely with a large local vendor, who is now providing a wide range of Kosher meat and other foods, available to the Jewish students 24 hours a day at deeply discounted prices.
Rutgers Jewish Outreach is ran and directed by a group of Chabad Rabbis serving the Central Jersey area, and is a division of the Rabbinical College Of America – New Jersey Headquarters of the worldwide Chabad movement.
