The intersection of Brooklyn Avenue and Lefferts Avenue has lately become a big source of income for the City of New York, as unsuspecting drivers make an illegal right turn from Brooklyn Ave onto Lefferts Ave.

Monday through Friday between 8:00am and 10:00am then again between 3:00pm and 5:00pm it is illegal to make that right turn. Regardless if it’s a school day or not.

DRIVERS BEWARE! TAKE NOTE!

I got a ticket there the other day- the sign is not visible if your driving 30 mph thru a green light. Usually those warning signs are on the actual traffic light which makes it visible to all drivers… this sign is on the opposite side of the street which in my opinion is there for the purpose to confuse drivers. The 71st precint recognizes the fault in this sign that is why they have a police car parked there at the time its prohibited to make the right turn. They look at it as an opportunity to write tickets to misinformed drivers.

  • busted on leferts...

YES! I was a victim. The cops stand across from Bais Rivkah sometimes and just waive you to the side of the road. It is also a moving violation which can result in insurance premiums going up and points on your license.

You can go to court (or hire a lawyer to do so) to get the points removed and save yourself from insurance rate hikes, but that is also time and money!!!

    Drive safe!

What I find amazing is that when Beis Rivkah is actually in session, the cops are no-where to be seen. Little girls are crossing the street, and drivers are turning illegally around the corner.
Yet now that there is no school, and it is easier to make a fast dollar on tickets, the cops are there.
71st Precint -you should be ashamed of yourselves!!

If you got a ticket there and school was not in session (ie. Friday Afternoon) It’s worth trying to fight it. Some judges might let you off with a note from the school that they were not in session at that time.

My friend got off the hook like that.

It was a friday afternoon and i drove down albany avenue to aviod brooklyn b/c i did not wan’t to make the right turn onto lefferts.
so i went straight on lefferts and i just past brooklyn avenue and cop stop me and said YOU KNOW YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO MAKE THAT RIGHT TURN ONTO LEFFERTS. Isaid excuse me i did not come down brooklyn i came from Albany Avenue. and just happened to be my son was in the car with me we yelled at him and said there is no way you are giving us a ticket THE COP SAID OK BUT I I WAS JUST REMINDING YOU HE DID NOT KNOW WHAT TO SAY TO US. BUT HE LET US GO WITHOUT GIVING US A TICKET.
I garrentee if i was not with my son i would of got a ticket for soposely making that right turn when i did not.

For the record, the signs were requested by Bais Rivkah, due to the large numbers of children crossing at the interection to/from school. It is for the SAFETY of the kids. If you feel the sign is not visible, too high, etc complian to your Community Board who will have NYC DOT investigate it. Because the signs are so often DIS-REGARDED,we periodically conduct enforcement, as a reminder. Please don’t bash the cops for looking out for the well being of YOUR children. Keep in mind, although the sign says Mon-Fri, If I am correct, Bais Rivkah has school on Sunday, so be careful what you wish.

  • SUNDAY - School Crossing DANGER

The sign is there for Beis Rivkah obviously.

So first of all, anyone who got a Ticket should thank Beis Rivkah for the Ticket.

More importantly the sign is wrong because Beis Rivkah is in session on Sunday too and the sign allows you to endanger the children on Sunday!

Whatever the police do its not good for you people. If the signs were not there and YOUR kid would get hurt you would blame the NYPD/Bais Rivkah and if you do not obey the law and make the turn and get a ticket you complain.

It’s very simple, its your decision to make the turn, if you do not turn you will not get a ticket.

Its YOUR/OUR responsibility to keep our kids safe and we MUST obey the law.

Thank you NYPD and Bais Rivkah for putting up the signs and please give lots of tickets to all of the selfish people who do not care about our kids

I was ticketed there recently. I made the turn without realizing the restriction as the signs are not that easy to see (high & on the side.) Still, angry as I was I paid it that afternoon ($90 in City pockets, not mine) & I pray I won’t get points. Hope not, it was 2 months ago.

Please be careful & if you do get a ticket, don’t fight it. If you lose, you’ll definitely get points. I don’t think it’s worth the chance.

BTW…Sgt. Troise & others are right…it is designed for safety of our girls. Pity there aren’t signs near Crown & Albany, OT, Albany & ENY etc.

  • Thank you NYPD

It’s every driver’s responsibility to pay attention to signs. Furthermore, everyone knows that the building on the corner is a school (Bais Rivkah) and there are usually driving restrictions set in place around schools to protect the children. Some schools have speed restriction with speed bumps in addition to "No Turn" restrictions.

It would make sense when in a school zone to PAY ATTENTION to signs. Please don’t take driving laws as a joke and don’t punish those for keeping our kids out of harms way.

So do you agree that the sign should be right under the street-light??

I think there should be signs everywhere.

This is the bottom line, use your brain. We know that there is a school there and you know that you are not allowed to turn, its up to you to follow the law and maybe more importantly, its your/our kids safety do you even care?

Do we have to wait until our kids get hurt for you/us to wake up and stop being selfish and careless?

This generation does not know what RESPONSIBILITY means, stop blaming everyone else and start taking responsibly for your actions.

  • another person

why you real cant see thatsign even in that pic. it is very high i dont know but i agree that it should be there
they should put by the liight………

  • Thankful Parent

I pass this sign every day on my way to work. It is not- as accusations have been made, hard to spot or in the wrong place. it is in the exact place that a sign warning you not to turn should be, slightly before the turn.
The sign prohibits turning even when school is not in session to accustom drivers to this safety precaution. Similar to STOP signs which require you to stop even if there are no cars coming.
If you are not a cautious driver, do not blame it on Bais Rivka or on the 71st precint. It is your fault and you deserve your ticket.
I applaud the police who enforce this driving rule (even when school is not in session) it assures me of my childs safety as she walks to and from school, and i cannot thank these dedicated officers enough for that peace of mind.
