Wednesday: Shloshim for Mrs. Miriam Slater, OBM

On Wednesday night, November 26, a Shloshim gathering will be held to honor the memory of Mrs. Miriam Slater, OBM, one of the unsung heroes of Crown Heights, where she affected so many lives in the more than 36 years she lived here together with her husband R’ Michoel sheyichye and her family.

Quiet by nature but determined to do acts of goodness and kindness whenever the occasion presented itself, Miriam was a constant volunteer for many of our Mosdos, including NCFJE, Soul II Soul, Bikur Cholim and ULY, to mention just a few. She formed lasting relationships with all who came into her sphere, as was witnessed by the unusually large attendance at her Levaya and during the week of Shiva.

The event will take place at 8:00pm at Lubavitcher Yeshiva – 570 Crown St. [hall entrance on Albany Ave.], and feature Rabbi Yaakov Klar, Associate Director of the Crisis Intervention Team at Chai Lifeline, as guest speaker. He will speak about “How to provide Chased for people in need.”

Addressing the gathering as well will be Rabbi Boruch Jacobson, a Shliach in NYS, as well as family members.

Miriam was the embodiment of “Tracht Gut vet Zain Gut,”  as she lived her life doing for others. She will be sorely missed.

  • Sorely missed but never forgotten

Miriam really knew how to provide chesed to people in need: doing what was needed, instead of doing whatever she herself was in the mood of doing; listening without interupting and only giving advice when requested to; never being condescending, and never making the recipient feel indebted to her.
In Shomayim they recognise her true worth. We still have a lot to learn about, and from, her.
