Bais Rivkah to Mark 100th Yahrzeit of Namesake

This Shabbos, Yud Shevat, marks the 100th yahrzeit of Rebbetzin Rivkah Schneerson (1834-1914), namesake of Bais Rivkah, the Chabad-Lubavitch flagship girls’ school.

In honor of the Yahrzeit, Bais Rivkah students, Headstart through Seminary, will assemble at 770 on Tu-B’shvat for a kinus Torah, Tefillah and Tzedaka.

Granddaughter of Rabbi Dov Ber, the second Chabad Rebbe (the Mitteler Rebbe), wife of Rabbi Shmuel, the fourth Chabad Rebbe (the Maharash) and mother of Rabbi Sholom Ber (the Rashab), Rebbetzin Rivka lived in Lubavitch where she was the grand matriarch at the time of the establishment of Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim.  She was the grandmother of Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak, the sixth Chabad Rebbe who founded and named Bais Rivkah Schools for her.

In one of his letters describing the mission statement of Bais Rivkah as established by his father-in-law upon coming to America, the Lubavitcher Rebbe wrote: “The Frierdiker  Rebbe stated ‘אמעריקע איז ניט אנדערש’. With regard to Torah and mitzvos,  America is no exception.  The Frierdiker Rebbe established Bais Rivkah to help realize the traditions and the continuity of Torah and mitzvos as these are dependent upon the woman, the mainstay of the Jewish home.”

Highly regarded in Lubavitch and beyond for her integrity, humility, and kindness, Rebbetzin Rivka continues to inspire generations of Bais Rivkah students to emulate her character and the values she lived by.
