This photo is of the first students of Yeshivas Tomchei Temimim Lubavitch in 770. It was taken shortly after the Yeshiva moved into the newly purchased Eastern Parkway building in the early 1940s.

Great to see this, thanks.
Interesting to note that Lubavitch fashion did not exist yet: I see some light colored hats and quite a few shaven faces.
Anybody knows when the black fedoras and and the beards became fashionable? Or obligatory?
Yitzchok Halevi
I was wondering the same thing. It appears that there was greater opportunity to express individuality then, than now. Chaval!

In those days, the bochurim wore ties. And I guarantee you that no one in that picture had an untucked shirt.

Why do you need to make such a nasty comment?
It is very kind of anyone that shares a photo!
Isn’t it OUR history too?
Do you also get upset or nasty when someone posts a picture of the Rebbe that you’ve also seen before?
OK, lets say you do.
And lets say the reason is because, ‘You want the Rebbe back in person! And that your tired of seeing just pictures”! (Understandingly so).
So do you feel that, ‘The way to bring the Rebbe back’
and to BRING Moshiach, is to insult other Yidden or other Lubavitchers?
I will answer that for you.
Apparently I’m sorry to say, that the answer is yes. If I’m wrong, which I hope I am, you owe a written published apology to the Yid that shared the photo.

This picture is from the early ’40’s. Reb Dovid Raskin arrived in NY in 1950, several days before the Histalkus.
