New Benches and Tables for 770’s ‘Small Zal’

Following the recent beautification and upgrades to the doors and trim of upstairs 770, new tables and benches arrived by shipping container from Israel and have replaced the 40 year old tables in the ‘small zal’.

The new tables were purchased by Rabbi Chaim Boruch Halberstam, head of the Vaad Bedek Habayis, who has been in charge of maintenance in 770 and has been behind the recent replacement of a number of doors that were damaged, as well as the door trim.

According to Rabbi Halberstam the old tables, which he had built, were over 40 years old, while the benches are ‘only’ 15 years old.

The new furniture arrived in a shipping container from Israel on Wednesday afternoon and under the guidance of Rabbi Halberstam they were moved into their new home, the two zals in upstairs 770, while the old benches and tables were moved into storage.

I built the tables over 40 years ago and I’m very happy to see the new tables

One of those tables were used by the Rebbe for Mincha on Shabbos, the one by the back near the liberary, gor a heileke tish! (Besides the “Official” table in the front that was made, to my understanding, into the Aron Hakoidesh with which the Rebbe was buried)

  • benches

The benches weren’t 15 years old. They’re regular benches from downstairs that are constantly being ‘fixed’by the Russian carpenter. They were not always the same benches. They kept rotating. Whenever there was an event that needed benches out or whenever there was an event downstairs that required more benches they moved around.
