Wow 3.5 million for a mikvah while our schools don’t have a penny to pay their teachers

A mikveh is more important than a school. It’s a disgrace that in a neighborhood the size of Crown Heights there was, until now, only one mikveh. Yasher Koach to those who built this one.

What happened with the concept of being discreet about this mitzvah? Why is it full of children? I’m pretty sure that it’s accepted practice amongst all orthodox circles that this mitzva isn’t discussed until the children are chosson / kallah or at least mature adults. That being said, it is beautiful. In the zechus of all the effort and money put into this mitzvah may we all be zoche to healthy chasidisher kinder!

    • I agree

      I agree with you 100%

Way too much information here. This is not for children, and does not need all the pomp and circus like atmosphere.

And I thought that I was the only crazy person thinking that a billboard on Kingston Avenue advertising this is inappropriate. Now I see from the pictures that this event was open to kids of all ages. And attended by distinguished Rabbis and members of the community.

So I guess after all I am the crazy one here, though from comment #1 it seems that I do have company

    • There is a boss

Today’s children and youth are exposed to way more then you’ll admit to it’s a healthy thing to know the concept of Mikvah (without going into the details) worst case scenario they will learn about an important mitzvah.

Since when are children not supposed to know that ladies go to the mikveh? They don’t need to know when, or the exact purpose, but they should certainly know that it’s a special mitzvah for married women.

Nothing at all wrong with knowing that there are Men’s Mikvahs and Women’s Mikvahs. No one discussed anything about the reasons/details of why one goes to mikvah. When they are old enough, then there will be discussion.
Yasher Koach Moishe Pinson, and all those who helped you!!!

  • Discreet about using it

Why discreet about a mitzvah that is a core to yiddishkeit? We’re not supposed to advertisemUSING the Mikvah but the mitzvah? It’s one of the initial 10 mivtzoim that the rebbe spoke about.

listen to the recording of the yechidus of the Bellzer rebbe by the rebbe. the Rebbe is pretty emphatic that the teaching must begin long before engagement…..

    • Milhouse

Huh? Why on earth not? Do you think it’s also not tzniusdik to take photos of a hotel room’s bathroom, or of a new bathroom at home?

  • Mazes Tov!!!

Absolutely gorgeous! Much bracha to all those involved in creating such a beautiful place. May it inspire nshei yisroel to fulfill the mitzvah more behider.

  • WOW

totally underwhelmed. All that marble, floor to ceiling – no color – it’s like a spaceship. And I too agree with #1-4. Inappropriate, although understandable. It IS a big deal, but TMI for kids.

    • Milhouse

What information, exactly, do you think kids are getting from this, that you think is too much?

  • marg

Recall hearing that in Soviet era children were shown mikveh so they should know there is such a mitzvah, since they might be forcibly separated from their parents and given no instruction about it.

Mazal Tov to the new Mikve in
    Crown Heights
A lot of Nachas , happiness
to the family who donated it . KOL AKAVOT
Please STOP this negativity ( money used , decoration, children in the picture in the opening?? ).
The Mitzva of the Mikve is extremely
important, It is ok that the children know what
    the mikve is.
Also a nice Mikve beautify the Mitzva…..make the woman positive spirit and brings beautiful children physically and character.

What? Since when? When a Shliach in Yehoopitsville builds a mikva he posts pics online!
