Photos: Ohel Preparing for Largest Shabbos in History

This is the first year that Gimmel Tammuz falls out on Shabbos in 14 years. As such, the administrators of Ohel Chabad Lubavitch, led by Rabbi Abba Refson, are in a frenzy of preparation for an unprecedented amount of guests who will be spending Shabbos there.

The kitchen is preparing Shabbos meals for 4,500 people, which will be served in a giant tent being erected, with permission from the city, in a baseball park on Francis Lewis Blvd. and 237th St.

Thousands have already made reservations for sleeping accommodations, while many others will make their own arrangements. In addition to over 100 RVs, two gigantic tents, each with 685 sleeping cots, were set up in the cemetery’s overflow parking lot on Springfield Ave.

About 70 enormous high powered air conditioning units were hauled in, with cooling capacities by the tonnage.

A CrownHeights.info photographer was at the scene today, and captured what he witnessed for all our readers to see.

I have mixed feeling about all this…did the rebbe let us be at the ohel during a shabbos? No the rebbe did not

I am humbled by the lengths that Rabbi Abba Refson goes to make tens of thousands of Jews extra comfortable. If I would say he goes the extra mile, it would be the understatement of the century.

Whoever comes to the Ohel for Shabbos is supposed to give a donation!

  • Why all the negative comments?

If you have an opposing opinion (and you are welcome to have one) then keep it to yourself as others have poured endless hours and dollars into this Shabbos and they deserve credit and RESPECT for it.
Everyone does what they do out of love for the Rebbe, a little more love between each other wouldn’t hurt.
