International Chidon Returns after 7 Year Hiatus

Yeshiva students from around the world took part in an exciting competition, which has not taken place in seven years.

Seven years ago the last Chidon Sefer Hamitzvos took place in Crown Heights. Students from across the globe competed in a competition of knowledge and wits in the Halachos of the Sefer Hamitzvos. The finalists from schools around the world traveled to New York to compete in a finale before a crowd of spectators.

For the first time since 2007 the Chidon has once again taken place, thanks to the efforts of many volunteers and organizations including Tzivos Hashem, Merkos L’inyonei Chinuch and My Shliach.

Contestants began arriving this past Thursday afternoon and evening and visited the Ohel, then Friday took a test whose results will place the finalist on the stage for the upcoming final on Sunday and went roller skating.

The main event, the finale, which included a performance by Benny Friedman and a jeopardy style competition between five teams of students took place in the Albany Avenue Public School in Crown Heights.

The competition was inspired by the Rebbe’s request to unite Yidden through the study of the 613 Mitzvos of the Torah. The Rebbe repeatedly emphasized that this effort will hasten the coming of Moshiach.
