his parent is right there kvelling, but i’m not exactly sure what there is to kvell about. a chaplain gets to keep his facial hair. goldstien – also depicted – has kept his beard for decades.
so what has been accomplished?

Beards are NOT permitted in the US Armed Forces. When the ban on facial hair went into effect, Col. Goldstein was given a waiver to keep his beard.
No Chaplain since then has been permitted to wear a beard, and Stern had to work for 2 years to be allowed to serve with a beard.
Is that not an accomplishment??

#5, Where have you been? Goldstein was grandfathered in when the regulations changed, but no new chaplains could sign up with beards. In other words a whole area of shlichus was completely closed to any Lubavitcher. Boruch Hashem the DoD has relented and allowed this, and thereby opened the door for more people to apply.
