Yeshivas Erev Boys Rewarded in Year End Event

The Lubavitcher Yeshiva simcha hall on Crown and Albany in Crown Heights was swarming with hundreds of boys this past Thursday evening 28 Sivan, ready to receive their long-awaited “sefarim vouchers” that they earned this year by attending Yeshivas Erev Yehuda Kalman.

Rabbi Zusy Sorkin, coordinator of Yeshivas Erev, opened up the grand finale with words of praise for all of the boys that devoted every evening of the week to further themselves in Limud Hatorah – some reviewing their Gemara, others joining the new Mishnas Gavriel Project, still others doing their homework and learning Mishnayos and Tanya Bal Peh.

An amazing “kitzur” project was launched this year in our Yeshivas Erev by Rabbi Shimon Aaron Rozenfeld לעילוי נשמת   Rabbi Y. K. Marlow.  Every evening after completing their homework the boys learned together 14 simanim in “kitzur” not covered in their regular school curriculum. After completing the siman they would answer questions and then be tested.

All boys receiving 90% and above got a cash award of $25 while those receiving 80% or above were given $18.

Following are the Kitzur Cash Winners: Levi Botnick, M.M. Blizinsky, Sholom Berkowitz,

Yechiel Vogel, Moshe Chein, Yakov Tauber, M.M.Cohen, Bentzion Sudak, Yehuda Friedman, M.M.Kubalkin, Eli Kanevsky, S.Z.Shapiro.  and Asher Sosover.

Rabbi S. A. Rosenfeld addressed the boys at the finale stressing the tremendous “hasmada” of Rabbi Marlow and the importance of their learning at this stage of their life.

The evening was also the climax of the “Shabbos Kehalcha Project of 5773” where the boys reviewed the 39 מלאכות  as well as hundreds of practical situations that they can apply every Shabbos.

This program was sponsored  לעילוי נשמת חיים מנחם (מענדל) בן ראובן and פעסי בת שמואל יוסף .

The following boys were the top winners of the year: Sholom Avtzon, Eliyahu Ezagui, S.Z. Oster, Yisroel Baron, Reuven Brenenson, M.M. Hertzel, M.M. Weinbaum, Dovid M.M. Ladayev, M.M. Wilenkin, S.D.B. Lieberov, S.D.B. Mayzlash, Uriel Matuf, AvrohomSorkin, M.M. Zwiebel, M.M. Rappaport, Naftali Rottenberg and Levi Shemtov.

They were each rewarded with a special sefer for their efforts.

Rabbi Sorkin then thanked all of the Mashgichim and older Bochurim for their great devotion to the boys that made this year such an outstanding one. He presented each of them with a beautiful gift as a token of appreciation.

Finally the evening was concluded presenting each of the boys that attended the Yeshivas Erev with a “sefarim voucher” to be cashed in at Merkos as well as the sefer “Chasid Neman” – the life story of Rabbi Eliyahu Simpson A”H.  The amount each boy received was based on his attendance and accomplishments during the past year.
