INBOX: Stop Stealing My Cleaning Lady!
This is not going to be one of those long-winded Op Eds that take ten minutes to read. My message is short….
I’m sure I am one of many Frum women who have received that dreaded text from her regular cleaning help informing her that she is not going to be available the week of Pesach and the days before. Mine actually told me the truth, she has been offered a good work opportunity to go to someone in the country, the few days before Pesach and the week of Pesach. This is one of her regular ladies whom she works at once a week. Many variations are, I have an emergency, my kid is sick, I am sick etc… But we all know the truth, some other “Frum” person has offered you more money to work for them instead.
So, to this lady and all the cleaning lady thief’s, yes I said thief…STOP STEALING MY CLEANING HELP AND LEAVING ME HIGH AND DRY THE WEEK OF YOM TOV!
It is morally and ethically wrong, you know full well you are taking her from several other hard working ladies who are now left with nobody to help them.
I really hope you get a good night sleep tonight.

Totally feel your pain and agree with you.
Unfortunately, a few years back I was in your situation.
It’s very hurtful, but people don’t really care.

If you guys hired legit cleaning ladies like from license bonded and insured companies you wouldn’t have to worry about the cleaning ladies being stolen or stealing from you. But you get what you pay for. You want cheap labor, you are going to get cheap results.
What makes her "yours"?
I can only imagine how disruptive that can be.
I don’t have a cleaning lady so I have no idea from personal experience.
Yes of course you are depending on her, but did you hire her to be exclusive as a contract to commit to pay her for the entire year?
More importantly, I’m wondering if people belong to others..
You may have expectations that won’t be easily met, and need to adjust somehow…

Wait it’s morally wrong to ‘steal’ a worker with whom there was no contract ever signed with. No insurances paid on said worker? The entire ‘cleaning lady’ industry is a joke and nobody should have ever had any high expectations about it.

No one ever stole my cleaning lady. You wanna know why? I am smart. I know that before pessach my cleaner will be offered a premium salary for pessach cleaning, from many other desperate yidden, so I preempt by offering my cleaner significant extra pay. In fact, I tell her that if anyone offers her more, and it is VERIFIED by me calling that person, I will match it and add 10%. Never lost one yet!

Brilliant!
What?
Your cleaning lady is not an object that someone can steal. You don’t own her. She is an independent worker who can choose who to work for.
Very Simple
Just like any other worker who decides not to show up because they get a higher paying temporary gig: they lose their full time job. Don’t bring her back after she cashes in on the short term gig.
If you need her more than she needs you…. either pay what’s she’s actually worth or deal with temporary inconveniences.

Have to agree with most of the comments here – you are presumably paying her cash, no benefits, no insurance, no social security etc, no contract – so don’t blame her!
Go legit – then you can complain….

Reminds me of the woman who screamed at her husband “someone stole my towel from the changing room in the swimming pool”
“Which towel?”
“The one that says Hilton Tel Aviv…”
