EMS Responses Slowed In NYC As Life-Threatening Calls Surged

A report from New York City Comptroller Mark Levine’s office found that FDNY ambulance-handled emergency medical responses increased by 11% between fiscal years 2015 and 2026, rising from 1.03 million to 1.14 million.
Response times also got longer at nearly every step. Responses to life-threatening emergencies increased by 3 minutes, 50 seconds, or 41.2%. For non-life-threatening emergencies, response times rose by 14 minutes, 49 seconds, more than doubling over the same period.
