Crown Heights Public School Among 17 to be Closed

The NYC Department of Education is shuttering 17 public schools throughout the city after a “rigorous review of academic performance” for the DOE. Among the schools to be closed is P.S. 167 on Eastern Parkway and Schenectady Avenue.

The New York City Department of Education announced plans Monday to close or phase out 17 schools.

The department said all the schools are low-performing, and the decision to close them or phase them out came “after a rigorous review of academic performance.”

“We’ve listened to the community and provided comprehensive support services to these schools based on their needs,” schools Deputy Chancellor Marc Sternberg said in a news release. “Ultimately, we know we can better serve our students and families with new options and a new start.”

just curious where r all the students from these schools going? i hope they dont start hanging out all over the streets because there is nowhere else for them to go

ch mosdos must buy the school building. it can be used for so many good purposes. dont let this opportunity slip past

  • Curios

Was the reason really because of the academic level or is it just the money issue?

  • Government spending

Didn’t the city just finish a multi-million dollar renovation project on that building? The scaffolding that was there for two years or more just came off. Can one of our schools get the building?

Closing a school just means they re-assign most of the teachers, students and administrators to new schools ….then re-open the old school under a new name, with different teachers and (for the most part) students.

I PRAY AND HOPE THAT ONE OF OUR MOSDOS, YESHIVOS, OR THOSE IN A POSITION OF COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP DO NOT LOSE THIS WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITY IN OBTAINING THIS PROPERTY FOR OUR USE. IN THE PAST WE LOST SOME STRATEGIC PROPERTIES (THE FORMER HOSPITAL ON PRESIDENT & BROOKLYN , THE WHOLE MEDGAR EVERS COMPLEX ) DUE TO EITHER INFIGHTING AMONG OUR MOSDOS OVER THE PROPERTIES OR SIMPLE NEGLECT. IT WOULD BE A CATASTROPIC LOSS IF WE LET THE BALL DOP ON THIS.

  • BUY IT NOW!!!!

This is where our askanim (if we have any!) should join together, raise the funds & buy the place. It can be a fantastic addition & much needed space for our schools. Don’t let the muslims get it and turn it into a madrassa!!!

  • The building is not being sold

This building will not be sold. When the city “closes” a school it means they basically replace the entire staff and administration and students must reapply to the new “school”.

The city will definitely NOT put this building up for sale. That’s a laughable joke and don’t let anyone convince you of otherwise.
