NYC Braces for Up to Foot of Snow

A ‘nor’easter’ is expected to pour heavy rain and snow on the eastern United States late Tuesday and cause problems on Wednesday, traditionally the busiest travel day of the year as Americans head home for Thanksgiving.

The coastal storm will strengthen Wednesday as it moves up the East Coast, with snow expected from the Appalachian Mountains to the interior Northeast and New England areas. Heavy rains are expected in the South.

Up to a foot of snow is predicted for Northern New Jersey and areas north of New York City and possibly over a foot for inland Massachusetts, southern New Hampshire and into Maine.

Drivers should check weather forecasts before setting out on the road “to ensure the safety of you and your family” and consider leaving earlier or later to avoid the storm, AAA advised. Travelers should also check tire pressure, car batteries and windshield wipers. Stock up on nonperishable food and emergency supplies in case you get stuck in the storm.
