Snow Respite Short-Lived with Storm Expected Tuesday

Another snowmaker is in the works and heading towards the Big Apple.

Fresh arctic air pouring into the Northeast, in the wake of the weekend snowstorm, will drop temperatures in New York City into the 20s to start Monday.

That will easily allow any wet or slushy spots left on untreated roads and sidewalks to turn icy, posing hazards for motorists and those traveling by foot.

Bridges and overpasses will be the first to freeze.

The arctic air will then prevent temperatures from rising out of the 20s on Monday. AccuWeather.com RealFeel® temperatures will be below zero to start the day, then only rise into the teens in the afternoon due to brisk winds.

The cold will set the stage for snow to quickly return to the city Tuesday morning. This will be a nuisance snow event, with a coating to an inch or two expected.

Motorists should still prepare for roads to be slick for a time during the morning commute. Airline passengers may encounter delays.
