Councilman Calls for Independent NYPD Oversight

A New York City councilman is calling for the creation of an inspector general’s office to oversee the police department.

On Monday, two lawyers with the Brennan Center for Justice at New York University called for such an office in a New York Times opinion piece.

City Councilman Brad Lander echoed them in an interview with news website Capital. He says he’s working to formulate a proposal.

The opinion piece cited a movie shown to police trainees that critics say paints Muslims negatively. It also noted an Associated Press investigation that uncovered police surveillance of Muslims.

Officials say the movie was shown by mistake, and officers only follow leads.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg has said the city won’t turn over control of the police department to an outside entity.

I was watching officers today give out tickets for double parking durring the alternate side times (usually its a courtesy not to give tickets than for obvious reasons) Somebody definetely needs to watch the man for its over reaching arm of power over peoples bank accounts . Also at this point Crown Heights should start prosecuting every single incident of violence against jews in the community if they want us to ignore Yitzi shuchat than we need to waste there judicial power on us as well…………………..
