Roosevelt Field Mall on Lockdown After Shooting

A New York mall and nearby school were placed on lockdown Wednesday afternoon after two people were shot inside a store near the mall, authorities said.

Police are searching for the gunman who is believed to have fled the scene in a white SUV.

The shooting occurred near the Roosevelt Field Mall in Garden City, Long Island. A Nassau County police spokeswoman would only say there was an “active scene” near the mall. The gunman was initially described as an Asian male, about 6’2 dressed in a red shirt and a suit jacket.

The status of the victims were not immediately available.

Newsday reported police had several streets blocked near the mall. It’s located about 30 miles east of New York City on Long Island.

The newspaper also reported the nearby Garden City schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution.
