Boruch Dayan Hoemes: R. Avrohom Boruch Junik, 60, OBM

With sadness we inform you of the untimely passing of Rabbi Avrohom Boruch Junik OBM, a resident of Crown Heights. He was 60 years old.

He was the son of Rabbi Dov Ber Junik, OBM, the legendary Chossid and meshamas bakodesh who merited to many kiruvim from the Rebbe and the Rebbetzin.

He was known as a “living encyclopedia” of Jewish history, who loved learning and discussing Halacha. He had Semicha and Dayanus.

Many years ago he was involved in helping index the many Seforim and manuscripts in the Rebbe’s library.

“He was very devoted to his family,” said a relative, “there was a unique and special warmth to him. His enjoyment of learning and knowledge of Chabad Mihagim was immense.”

For the past three decades, he and his wife Cipi mentored searching young college students at the Ivy League Torah Study Program. With his sincerity and deep knowledge, he patiently answered their questions, thus impacting many of them to return to their roots.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Cipi (nee Lasky), and their children: Rabbi Eliyahu Junik (Burlington, Vermont), Chana, Sarale Cohen (Crown Heights), Levi and Goldie.

He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Furma Junik (nee Pewzner), and siblings: R’ Yosef Yitzchok Junik (Crown Heights), Mrs. Nechama Itkin (Pittsburgh, PA), R’ Shamshon Junik (Crown Heights), R’ Meir Shlomo Junik (Crown Heights), Rabbi Menachem Junik (England) R’ Dovid Junik (Crown Heights) and Mrs. Chana Spielman (Crown Heights).

His mother, Mrs. Fruma Junik, is not being notified of her son’s passing until after Shabbos. At the family’s request, please be sensitive and take care not to inform her.
