Boruch Dayan Hoemes: Mrs. Ethel Botnick, 98, OBM

With sadness we inform you of the passing of Mrs. Ethel Botnick, OBM, of Somers, CT, the mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother of a large family of Chabad Chassidim, most of whom live in Crown Heights. She was 98 years old.

Ethel Botnick resided in a beautiful home in Somers, CT, which she designed herself, and which she kept kosher her entire life. She was a very active member of her community, appearing several times on Hartford television as a commentator on civic issues. She was also a Justice of the Peace, and refused to officiate at intermarriages. Her husband, Avrohom Yosef (Yossel), OBM, was the head of a successful department store, National Family, in Stafford Springs, CT.

She is survived by her three children: Frima Rivka and Yisroel Chaim, who lived close by, in Storrs and Stafford Springs, respectively; and Ephraim Daniel, who – along with his family – became a Lubavitcher Chossid while residing in Springfield, Massachusetts, and moved to Crown Heights in 1991.

The Levaya will be held in Windsor, CT.

Ephraim Daniel Botnick will be sitting Shiva at 1236 Carroll Street [between New York and Nostrand Avenues] in Crown Heights.
