Never too Old for Tefillin, 103 and Going Strong
Shmarya Shusterman found an nice surprise on his weekly Mivtzoim route, a 103-year-old Jew who did not put on Tefillin in “a very long time”.
Shmarya encountered Harry in a small shop where he had been working for the past three years. After finding out he was Jewish he asked if he would like to put on Tefillin, responding that he had not put on Tefillin in a very long time, so he offered to help him.
After reciting the Shema Harry shared that he was born on March 15th 1909, the 22nd of Adar 5669. He had moved to the United States from Prague when he was 12 and had his Bar Mitzvah in an orthodox Shul.
After this first wonderful encounter Harry expressed his desire to continue putting Tefillin on and the two have been meeting regularly the past few weeks.
