President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy Signs Law on Criminal Liability for Antisemitism
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a law introducing criminal liability for manifestations of antisemitism, thereby strengthening state policy in the field of combating discrimination and protecting the rights of national and religious communities.
The document provides for amendments to Article 161 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine in order to implement the provisions of the Law of Ukraine “On Prevention and Counteraction of Antisemitism in Ukraine.” From now on, liability for actions related to inciting hatred, humiliating honor and dignity, and manifestations of antisemitism is clearly regulated at the level of criminal legislation.
According to information published on the website of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine regarding the relevant bill, legal mechanisms for responding to manifestations of antisemitism have been established in Ukraine, which is an important step in strengthening the security and protection of the Jewish community.
