Montreal Kosher Steakhouse Firebombed

The damaged facade of the Kosher shop Chops Resto Bar steak-and-sushi restaurant on Queen Mary Rd. near Décarie Blvd. in Montreal’s Snowdon district, on Thursday, October 18, 2012, following a 4 a.m. firebombing.

A kosher restaurant that bills itself as “Montreal’s premier steakhouse and sushi bar” was firebombed early this morning.

Witnesses told police they saw two suspects in hoodies throwing what is believed to be a Molotov cocktail through the front window of Resto-bar Chops, located on Queen Mary Road in Snowdon, at approximately 4 AM this morning.

Montreal police are reporting that two men were seen fleeing the scene.

“Damage from the fire was minor,” Constable Daniel Fortier told VIN News. “The restaurant did sustain more serious damage from the sprinkler system which extinguished the fire.”

This is the second time that the Chops has been the victim of a firebombing attack, according to CTV Montreal, which stated that another Molotov cocktail had been hurled inside the restaurant just over two years ago.

Two nearby bars were also firebombed early Wednesday morning in the span of just twenty minutes. Minimal damage was sustained at both Cafe Ciociaro and The Bar Primetime, located just seven blocks away from each other in Plateau, and approximately four miles away from Chops.

While police, who are investigating arson in all three cases, had already confirmed that yesterday’s two firebombings were linked, they have yet to confirm if today’s incident was also related to those attacks. Officials also would not speculate if they were related to similar previous similar events in the area.

It is unknown if Chops was targeted because of its kosher status.

“It is too soon in the investigation to know that information,” said Constable Fortier.

Actually, living in Montreal and having dealt with police on occassion, I have never had a bad experience with them.. This isn’t Crown Heights.

Maybe you’re confusing the real police with the “Language Police”. That’s a completely different story. And yes, the “real” police will speak to you in English if you like.

the police should be respected. here there and everywhere. There are not many things we can teach our kids that are worse then “don’t trust the police” or “don’t validate their opinion”

That’s what happens in the projects and it leads to children growing in crime that stick up for criminals.
