Israel: Two Infants Dead After Being Left in Vehicles

Another two incidents in which an infant was forgotten in a vehicle in Eretz Yisrael R”L — ended in tragedy.

This first case occurred in Yishuv Shilo in Shomron on Sunday, 7 Menachem Av 5773. The child, a five-month-old boy was left in the family car by the dad for several hours. Police report seven hours. Despite all resuscitation efforts there was little hope for the little boy who was pronounced dead.

And on Monday afternoon, 8 Menachem Av, another child was found in cardiac arrest, left in the family vehicle in Yishuv Dolev, also in Shomron. In this case, the child appears to have been in the vehicle for five hours. MDA paramedics transported the infant to Tel Hashomer Hospital in Tel Aviv. The child, a girl, was R”L pronounced dead in the hospital. (Conflicting reports place the victim’s age at 18-months, 3-years and 3.5 years).

Just two weeks ago the same occurred with another infant in Ramat Gan. In that case, a nine-month-old girl was left in a vehicle by her father with, once again, a fatal outcome.

The parents should be beaten. Then left in a car during 100 degree temperatures to bake.

I am a mother of B”H more than half a dozen children and can’t understand how a parent forgets a child in a car. That being said I do see how absolutely careless the parents of Crown Heights are with their children, and it makes me wonder why they bother having them. why do these innocent little children have to suffer the consequences of their irresponsible parents???!!!!

It is actually shockingly easy to forget a child, especially in a backward-facing car seat in the back, and especially if there has been a change in routine that day. It used to happen far less frequently when children used to ride in the front, in forward-facing car seats, before the fear of airbags moved them to the back. It is a well-documented phenomenon, and can happen even to the most conscientious parent. This is very different from deliberately leaving a child in the car “just for a short while”.
