A trade war is set to begin in North America as Trump announces tariffs against Canada, China, and Mexico, with Canada and Mexico announcing retaliatory tariffs.
In a message on Truth Social, Trump announced that he is using the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to implement a 25% Tariff on all Imports coming from Mexico and Canada, with the exception of 10% on Canadian Energy, as well as a 10% additional Tariff on China.
The Tariffs are set to go into effect at 12:01am on Tuesday, and are aimed at curbing illegal aliens and drug trafficking.
Following Trump’s announcement, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that Canada would respond to the tariffs by issuing 25% retaliatory tariffs on $155 billion in American goods entering Canada.
The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, also ordered retaliatory tariffs against the United States with 25% tariffs on all imports coming from both the US and Canada.
