Vineland, NJ — Students of the ‘Beis Medrash Menachem’ Semicha Institute of Morristown, New Jersey, headed by Rabbi Chaim Schapiro, took a trip to a slaughterhouse in Vineland, New Jersey.

They watched the entire process of salting and rinsing and also visited the fowl slaughterhouse on the premises.

This exposure to the processes of koshering meat improved their practical understanding of these subjects.

The Semicha programs operates under the chief shliach to New Jersey, Rabbi Moshe Herson.

  • DALOI HIPOCRACY

What is the point and purpose of going to a slaughter house, that you would not use the chicken/meat that it produces?

What exactly is accomplished by showing these bochurim what they do there, if, we/they would never use the chickens that come from Vineland?

Does this mean that Vineland chickens are now OK for Lubavitcher to eat?

  • ashirah

even if we dont eat it, its still a learning process… at the very least, they’ll learn what NOT to do.

  • Normal Person

Just because some people hold by certian chumras( not ALL Lubavitchers eat only CHK) does not mean in anyway that vineland is not good kosher shechitah.

  • CampRunamok

Well, if it is okay to have Ungarishe Chassidim schechting under the CHK at Agriprocessors (check the pictures on the AP website) then what is wrong with Lubavitchers schechting under the CRC/Hisachdus at Vineland. Our communites agree on far more than we differ.

  • hello??

    to DALOI HIPOCRACY

It does not take a rocket scientist to understand what they can learn from the slaughterhouse.

Especially since the article specifically states that they went to watch “entire process of salting and rinsing” which “improved their practical understanding of these subjects.”

In short they went to see how chickens are salted.

They did not go to learn from the kashrus of the plant.

They also did not go to observe the shochtim.

They just went to gain a practical understanding of salting chickenes, in order that what they do all day will not be just abstract learning.

To sum it up. Stop trying to read between the lines. Your projecting what you would like the article say.

    Stick to the words.

Yeah Rapoports…They not only take boys on tours to see the kashering process, but they do so much chesed in every way among their people and others. The Rapoports are always providing comfort and care to their community who loves them dearly and unconditionally. I know…I’ve seen them in action first hand.

  • observer

i agree with hello??. the trip was meant to give the bochurim a hands on understanding of what it means to soak and salt chicken etc. in no way was the level of kashrus ever on the agenda at all.

  • DALOI HIPOCRACY

    TO HELLO??

I totally agree with you. However, if, (as I am sure you would agree,) there is essentially really only one way to salt a chicken, and essentially really only one way to soak a chicken, and essentially really only one way to shecht a chicken, so…what IS the big difference between Vineland & Rubashkin/AGRIprocessors?

The difference comes down to the shochtim and whom do you trust more.

I, personally, would trust an “UNGARISHER” ehrlicher yid, than a so-called “CHASIDISHER” am ho’oretz!

Although I’m sure it was a great learning experience (and one that is very practical), I’m thinking of a pareve shabbos.

quit the master debate, hello it was just a trip to learn salting, the rebbe never assur’d their technique of salting so there is nothing wrong with seeing how they do it.
