KSCVK’s Second Annual ‘Ice Cream Social’!

Crown Heights, Brooklyn — Yesterday evening Keren Simchas Chosson VeKallah held its second annual ‘Ice Cream Social’. Many women baked cakes that were displayed for all to see, and then the lucky participants were able to ‘bid’ on the cakes Chinese auction style. There were over 45 cakes on display.

An extensive gallery of all the beautiful cakes along with a list of the cakes and the amounts they were auctioned off for can be seen in the Extended Article!

There was an ice cream buffet, both Milchig and Pareve which was served with all different types of toppings. Hot apple turnovers, warm chocolate chip cookies, waffles, mouth watering cheesecakes and beautifully arranged fruits were just a few of the large variety of things to savor.

The event took place in Bais Rivka Campus Chomesh and was emceed by Mrs. Chana Leah Nunez who later on auctioned off the cakes, and Mrs. Sara Esther Crispe gave a moving lecture, entitled “Turning your other half in to your other whole – a Kabbalistic understanding of relationships, marriage and our own individual role within them”.

The gorgeous cakes baked by our very own talented women of Crown Heights were displayed and voted on for the most beautiful L’Chaim cake. Following the beautiful program all the cakes were brought up to the staged and then auctioned off in the order they were voted.

cool i was there i saw most of the cakes and the pink clock actually moved!!

  • SaraG

The list is actually in order of the auction; it does NOT correspond to the number of each cake.

For example, I baked #13, the Chocolate Mud Cake, but it was auctioned off 43rd.

  • nosher

    Great party, fun.
    Tamborine cake your number “one”!
    Chev, your tambourine rocks!

  • RBA

I think that cake number 5 – the teapot – is by far the most original – I would have made that first prize if I was in charge :)

  • nosher

  • Woweeee!

    Gorgeous cakes, all of them!
Special mention for the “picture perfect” cake–original idea, and beautifully done!

  • Friend

Cakes were really awesome. The girl who made the REAL clock cake and THE chocolate chess set is really good. You should see different cakes she makes every time someone gets engaged or has a baby. Totally AWESOME.

She should totally go into the business.

  • Yaffie

Wow so unbelievably impressive. THanks for sharing it on the web.

  • Sarah R

The chess set was the nicest of them all. I wish that I could make it. Whoever made it has a lot of talent.

  • proud mom

It was so hard to vote for the five best. They were all so good! Don’t forget that 17 girls that bought cakes last year got married within the year. may all of you unmarrieds that bid on cakes for a segulah come next year wearing sheitels! I think we should expand this into other communities. Imagine Devorah how much KSCVK can make if we get other communities involved!

the only cake that had TOCHEN is the “its naver to late” cake, all others are nice but without TOCHEN, I think that the TOCHEN of the cake is to be judged as well, aside for the fact that the cake is very nice.

  • Cassy

    Ma
    glad your function went well.
sorry i wasnt there to help but im in China.
    see you all soon

  • friend

the winning cake was made by etel hurwitz i seem to recall she won first place last year as well

  • yocheved

do you have to sell the clock cake if you keep it for pesach?

  • esty fan

hey esty and faigy you guys rock! we love you! your cousins on montgomery

  • meemabrina

Thank you Dvora Binyaminson. It just comes to show what one person can accomplish if they want to.

We all can learn from her.

I would have liked to know the names of the BAKERS. I think, that for next year, their names should be up there with their creations.

  • Leah

The event was beautiful and the cakes were definitely stunning, but I think it is pathetic that no one has mentioned (nor did the article) the incredible speech that was given by Sara Esther Crispe and the powerful message that it had. Someone commented that there was no toichen in regards to the cake, how about focusing on the toichen of the event itself? The speech was the CAKE the rest was just the icing…

  • Mina Green

100%, the only cake with TOCHEN is the “its never to late” cake, next year TOCHEN is to be the #1 thing for winner.

  • someone

chaya hott did the chess set and the pink clock! she should go into the business………….tried to convince her that! Her work is acutally designing logos and things along that line.

  • cakes

yes i agree picture perfect cake has got the most creativity and originality, lots of talent there

  • Chaya

All the cakes were amazing and so beautiful it would be a shame to eat them. I think that all the cakes had “tochen” and a positive message, and the very fact that the women put so much time and effort into baking a cake for the benefit of hachnosas kallah is all the tochen you need, regardless of how the cake actually looked.

It was so hard to pick only the top five–I actually used up my raffle tickets before I got to see all the cakes. Is the list the order of the winners?

  • mancy city

hey iam from england and seriously i have never seen sure cooool cakes that are edabile(just kiddin i have but those are something else)gr8 job keep it up !!!

  • No Tochen???

    Simchas Chosson Vikallah
    Basi Ligani
    …Kasha Kikriyas Yam Suf
    Binyan Adei Ad
    Gam Tzipor Matza…
    Badchan
    Bishaah Tova Umutzlachas

And how about all the cakes that had messages of simcha, mazal tov, love? (absolute pair, picture perfect, c & k mazal tov, and many more…..) Almost ALL the cakes had beautiful Tochen and they were stunning as well!!! Yasher koach to Devorah Benjamin and all the people who helped out and those who baked cakes. it was an absolutely beatiful event!

  • To Yocheved & Chaya

The clock would have to be sold for Pesach. It is CAKE.

The list is the order of winning cakes.

    1. Krias Yam Suf – $1,600
    2. Chess Set – $1,900
    3. Chosson Kallah Cake – $1,200

Some cakes only went for so much money because there were groups of 10-15 girls bidding together. For example the tambourine cake and the “tichel” cake were auctioned off much later but with a lot of girls together they were able to come up to that some total.

  • cake

wow guys are artists and you guys rock so much i can not stop saying that

  • sugar

they are realllllllllllllllllllly cute, beautiful, adorable and most of all i liked the pink clock!

  • oot

wow all the cakes were beautiful, but I like the chess set and the clock the best.

  • devorah

it is nice to give compliments on the cakes, but what’s the point of saying which is the best, it does not make the others feel good
think of how much time it takes for each cake to be made, you don’t know how much effort went into each one and by saying one is the best it only makes someone else feel bad
and about the cakes having toichen, i can’t think of more toichen than a cake baked for hachnossas kalla

  • brocha

There’s only one word to describe it all: Amazing!!!!!!!!!!!

  • gr8

the ones i liked the best were: 1,3,4,5,6,7,9,10,11,12,15,17,19,20,21,25,26,42,36,33,31.41,44,35,29,28,45,46,38,37,39.
    gr8 job tiku lemitzvot!!!!!

  • shaina

that wazz cool! I like all the cakes i will eat all of the MMMMMMMM…….
